UConn vs Rice Pick

UConn has been playing excellent football this year. The Huskies are a few plays away from being undefeated after close losses to Syracuse and Delaware.

They should outclass Rice on Saturday.

Rice has been struggling to score, averaging 16 points per game against FBS competition on 3.8 yards per carry. The Owls have rushed for only three touchdowns over the past three weeks, which is a problem considering they can’t throw the ball, ranking 135th nationally in Pass Success Rate.

Rice is built like a Service Academy, but it hasn’t developed the pass attack like Army, Navy, and Air Force have. As a result, the Owls have struggled on 3rd-and-medium or worse.

UConn creates its fair share of havoc, with 50 tackles for loss and 26 sacks. Meanwhile, Rice has allowed 60 negative plays, struggling to stack plays together.

Joe Fagnano is the real deal. Over the past two weeks, he’s completed 45 of his 59 passes (76%) for 716 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions. At the same time, Rice has allowed over 10 yards per attempt over its past three games.

Rice won’t be able to stop UConn or keep up.

Pick: UConn -10.5 (-110, bet365)
