Western Kentucky vs Sam Houston College Football Preview
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Betting Preview
Western Kentucky has battled through a tumultuous season while facing a brutal early road schedule, where four of its first five contests were away from home.
The Toppers are coming off a home win against Missouri State last week, where, for the first time this season against FBS competition, the offense looked competent.
Quarterback Brock Glenn threw the ball well while also adding 95 yards on the ground, contributing to a total of 233 team rushing yards. Ajay Allen ran for 105 yards and a couple of rushing scores.
Western Kentucky put up its largest point total of the season (outside of its FCS contest against Mercyhurst).
The offense will look to keep it going, but the Toppers are back on the road, where the offensive output has been very poor this season. Western Kentucky is averaging just 12 points per game away from home this season.
The defense has been leaky this season, specifically against the run. Western Kentucky simply can't stop the run, and it's caused opposing offenses to extend drives, convert third down and put points on the board.
The front is allowing 226 yards per game and 6.3 yards per carry on the ground against FBS foes while allowing no fewer than 206 yards per game rushing on the road.
At this point in the season, only marginal improvements can be expected due to personnel limitations, so expect Sam Houston to have success on the ground in this game.

Sam Houston Bearkats Betting Preview
The Bearkats haven't had a lot of success thus far during the Phil Longo tenure, but after a 2-10 campaign in 2025 that featured several non-competitive blowout losses, this year’s team has been feisty, specifically at home.
Bowers Stadium was renovated, which provided a little extra juice around the football facilities, and two one-possession losses against Troy and Tulsa to open the season gave this team some hope.
The last two weeks, Sam Houston has punched above its weight class against Texas Tech and a Liberty bunch that's surging.
Now the Bearkats head back home, where they've played excellent defense and will look to notch a home win against Western Kentucky, which is 0-4 straight up and against the number away from home.
Quarterback Landyn Locke has improved this season and has thrown for 1,306 yards with an 11:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Prior to last week’s poor road showing, Locke had thrown multiple touchdown passes in every game this season, including on the road against Texas Tech.
The passing offense has experienced some explosiveness due to the receiving prowess of Tim Burns Jr and Chris Reed. These two have speed and quickness to make defenders miss and turn routine gains into big plays.
Grady O’Neill has also been sure-handed this season, hauling in 25 passes.
The offensive line was so bad last season, but it's played better this year, and I expect Alton McCaskill and Landan Brown to get it going on the ground this week.

Western Kentucky vs Sam Houston Pick, Betting Analysis
This line opened with Western Kentucky being favored by 1.5 points and has bounced around between a pick'em, -1 and -2.5, which is available as of writing. The total sits at 52.5.
I like Sam Houston +2.5.
Western Kentucky is being outgained this year by 176 yards per game on the road, and the run defense can't be counted on.
New Mexico State, which has one of the worst rushing attacks in the college leagues, shredded this defense for 6.1 yards per attempt and a couple of rushing scores.
Sam Houston has a pair of capable running backs who can find space on the ground. I expect the Bearkats to move the ball and find the red zone more frequently than they have all season. That will lead to points.
Western Kentucky wants to throw the football, but Sam Houston has been excellent against the pass this year. The secondary ranks 16th nationally in Passing Success Rate allowed and 23rd in explosiveness.
Western Kentucky has finally settled on a quarterback in Brock Glenn, but the design of the offense is to garner explosive plays.
The Tops rank just 124th nationally in Passing Success Rate, and if the chunk plays aren't there, this offense can't move the football.
We saw Sam Houston shut down the effectiveness of the Troy passing game in the opening game of the season, and the Bearkats defense followed that up by frustrating Tulsa while taking a lead into the half.
This defense also allowed just one offensive touchdown in the first half against Texas Tech, and there's some talent.
I expect this team to play good football at home, and for the offense to cash once it crosses midfield — something it couldn't do last week against Liberty.
Pick: Sam Houston +2.5 OR Sam Houston ML +105
