Missouri State Bears Odds & Betting Guide — 2026 Season
Missouri State went 7-6 in its first FBS season, reached a bowl game it was not supposed to be eligible for, and then watched its entire coaching staff leave for Coastal Carolina.
Where Missouri State stands
The 2025 season was the program's first in Conference USA and at the FBS level after transitioning up from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Bears finished 7-6 with a 5-3 conference record, tied for fourth in the league.
The postseason came through a loophole. Missouri State was initially declared ineligible under FCS-to-FBS transition rules, then received an invitation to the Xbox Bowl because there were not enough six-win teams to fill all 42 FBS bowl slots. The Bears lost that game 34-28 to Arkansas State, their designated rival.
Ryan Beard built the program to that point, taking over a 4-7 team in 2023 and going 8-4 in 2024 before the 7-6 FBS debut. Then he left for Coastal Carolina and took the staff with him. Offensive coordinator Nick Petrino, who had been in Springfield for six seasons and served as interim head coach for the bowl game, went to Conway. So did defensive coordinator L.D. Scott, who had run the 4-2-5 for three years.
Casey Woods takes over as head coach in his first season leading a program.
The 2026 season also completes the transition. Missouri State becomes a full FBS member, which removes the eligibility complications that shaped last year's postseason.
Robert W. Plaster Stadium seats 17,500, among the smallest venues in the FBS.
Conference USA in 2026
The league lost two members this cycle, with Louisiana Tech leaving for the Sun Belt and UTEP for the Mountain West.
Missouri State's non-conference slate is unusually demanding for a program in its second FBS season. The Bears open at No. 8 Texas A&M on Sept. 5, host FCS Lindenwood, welcome Marshall from the Sun Belt, then travel to No. 19 SMU. Two ranked road games in the first four weeks.
October is where the schedule turns strange. Missouri State plays four consecutive games outside the Saturday window: at Western Kentucky on Thursday, Oct. 8, home against Kennesaw State on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Delaware on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and home against Sam Houston on Tuesday, Oct. 27. All four carry national television slots across CBS Sports Network, ESPNU and ESPN2.
November returns to Saturdays with FIU, New Mexico State, Jacksonville State and Liberty.
Missouri State 2026 futures odds
The market has to price a 7-6 team that lost everyone who coached it.
The staff departure is the central fact. Beard, Petrino and Scott left together, which means Woods inherits systems, terminology and schemes that all change simultaneously. Continuity is the most reliable predictor of year-over-year performance in college football, and Missouri State has essentially none on the coaching side.
The counterweight is that the roster stayed. A team that went 7-6 against FBS competition in its first season at the level demonstrated more than most transitional programs do, and the players who produced that are largely still in Springfield.
The schedule is the harder problem. Texas A&M and SMU are near-certain losses, Marshall is difficult, and the conference slate offers no obvious cushion. Getting back to six wins requires beating Lindenwood plus five from a group where Missouri State will rarely be a clear favorite.
Weigh it against the rest of the college football futures board.
Season-long markets also trade on prediction markets, where a Conference USA number draws thin volume and can drift from the sportsbook price. A Kalshi promo or a Novig promo code gets you started, our Polymarket vs. Kalshi breakdown compares the platforms, and we collect current college football prediction market promos in one place.
Betting Missouri State point spreads
A point spread bet turns on margin of victory rather than who wins.
Take the Wednesday, Oct. 14 home game against Kennesaw State, the defending conference champion. These are illustrative prices, so pull live college football odds for the real number:
- Missouri State +6.5 (-110)
- Kennesaw State -6.5 (-110)
Missouri State covers by losing by six or fewer, or by winning outright. Kennesaw State covers by winning by seven or more. The -110 on each side is the vig: risk $1.10 to win $1.
The Bears angle: opening numbers on this team will be built off a 7-6 season produced by a coaching staff that no longer exists. That is a specific kind of pricing error, because power ratings carry forward team performance without adjusting for who was directing it.
It cuts both ways. If Woods maintains what Beard built, the market may underrate a returning roster. If the systems change materially, September will expose it quickly against Texas A&M and SMU, where results will be lopsided regardless and tell you little.
The four-game midweek stretch is where books diverge most. Weeknight Conference USA markets open later, draw thinner action and move on smaller amounts of money, so lines travel further between open and close. Track it through the against the spread standings.
A BetMGM bonus code gets you a second price to compare, and we track college football betting promos as they change.
Betting Missouri State totals
An over/under asks whether the combined final score lands above or below the posted number. At 48.5, a 28-24 final goes over and a 24-21 final stays under.
- Over 48.5 (-110)
- Under 48.5 (-110)
Both coordinators leaving makes totals genuinely difficult to price. Petrino's multiple offense had been in place for six years, running back to Bobby Petrino's tenure, and Scott's 4-2-5 for three. Woods installs new systems on both sides, so opening numbers describe schemes that are no longer being run.
That uncertainty usually produces wider ranges early and more disagreement between books, particularly for a program with only one season of FBS scoring data to work from.
The venue is worth factoring in. Robert W. Plaster Stadium holds 17,500, which is small enough that crowd effects and weather play differently than at larger venues. Six of Missouri State's games are there, including three of the four midweek dates. Public betting data helps read those spots, since it separates the share of tickets from the share of dollars.
Our analysts work the same angles in weekly college football picks.
Betting the Missouri State moneyline
A moneyline bet is a bet on who wins outright. Margin is irrelevant.
An illustrative home price:
- Missouri State -140
- Opponent +120
Convert to implied probability and the margin shows. Missouri State at -140 breaks even around 58.3%; the opponent at +120 breaks even around 45.5%. Those sum past 100%, and the excess is the sportsbook's cut.
On payouts, $10 on Missouri State at -140 returns $17.14 for a $7.14 profit. The same $10 at +120 returns $22 for a $12 profit. An odds calculator handles any price.
The first-FBS-season result is the useful precedent. Winning seven games while transitioning up a level, against a schedule that included FBS opponents throughout, is better than most programs manage in that situation. Delaware, the other program that made the same jump in 2025, produced a similar surprise.
The Texas A&M and SMU trips will produce the longest prices of the season. A second-year FBS program at a top-10 opponent is not a spot worth backing at any number, but the November conference games are where Missouri State should be competitive.
Missouri State player props
College prop markets aren't offered in every legal state, so availability varies even where you can bet the game.
Prop pricing here faces the same problem as everything else on this page. Petrino's six-year tenure as offensive coordinator meant usage patterns were stable and well-documented, and all of that is gone. Woods will distribute touches differently, and nobody knows how yet.
The roster itself is the anchor. Players who produced during a 7-6 FBS debut are still in Springfield, which gives oddsmakers real production to price against even without knowing the system. That combination, real player data plus unknown scheme, typically produces lines that are too closely tied to last year's distribution.
The four midweek October games affect prop markets more than they affect sides. Those numbers post later and draw less attention than the Saturday board, and prop lines in particular sit untouched longer on Tuesday and Wednesday games.
