Las Vegas is famous for its lively nightlife, busy casinos, and unusual buildings. It takes something special to get noticed on the Strip, and this is definitely one of those times.
The new 660-foot Guitar Hotel is being built, and people are calling it one of the most exciting projects on the Strip in years. Why? Because it's a hotel shaped like a guitar.
The Seminole Tribe of Florida, who own Hard Rock International, is leading this project.
They're turning the old Mirage Hotel and Casino site into a unique place to visit. It will be the defining feature of the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. And aim to help reverse the recent tourism decline in Sin City.
It will transform the look of Las Vegas, much like the Sphere.
A Look Back: The History of The Mirage Hotel and Casino
The Mirage Hotel and Casino opened in 1989 and quickly became a key part of Las Vegas.
It was famous for its tropical style and its volcano that erupted with fire, making it a well-known spot on the Strip.

Built by Steve Wynn, the Mirage changed the game for Vegas by introducing a new style of luxurious and grand resorts.
When it opened, it was the most expensive casino ever built, costing $630 million. Over the years, millions of people visited the Mirage, making it an important part of Las Vegas history.
Guitar Hotel is Coming to Las Vegas Strip
The new Guitar Hotel project, where the Mirage used to be, will cost more than $4 billion to build. It's the biggest construction happening on the Strip right now.
The main attraction will be a guitar-shaped tower that will go up 660 feet, adding a new standout feature to the Las Vegas skyline. This eye-catching building will take the place of the Mirage’s well-known volcano, creating a fresh and memorable landmark.

Construction kicked off right after the Mirage closed in July 2024.
The unique guitar-shaped building is already coming together, marking a new beginning for the area. The glass is already going in. The hard work of tearing down old structures and setting up the base will continue through 2025.
What Will The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas Offer?
When finished, the resort will have more than 3,600 guest rooms, with nearly 600 of those inside the new guitar-shaped building. The old Mirage rooms will be completely updated to fit the new style.
The casino will be much larger than before, offering 175,000 square feet of space. It will include 2,000 slot machines, 212 table games, poker rooms, special high-stakes areas, and places to bet on races and sports, giving fans plenty of choices.

Beyond gaming, the resort will feature a variety of amenities, including:
- Multiple Pools
- Two Spas
- Over 20 New Dining Venues
It will also include live entertainment venues, an expanded retail area, an enlarged theater with up to 6,265 seats, and increased convention space reaching up to 283,000 square feet.
New walkways will connect the hotel to Harrah's and the Venetian, making it easier for guests to move between these places and explore the busy area.
Guitar Hotel to Usher In A New Era for the Strip
The Guitar Hotel is expected to open in late 2027, and everything is going according to plan and budget. This project shows how serious Hard Rock International is about making a bigger mark in Las Vegas and highlights the growing role of the Seminole Tribe in the city.

Even as visitor numbers and casino earnings on the Strip change, this project shows confidence in big resort experiences. The new hotel will be a key Hard Rock spot in Las Vegas and is expected to attract a lot of visitors, both from the U.S. and abroad, by offering luxury rooms, gaming, and entertainment.
Overall, turning the old Mirage site into the 660-foot Guitar Hotel marks a big change for the Las Vegas Strip. It will not only celebrate the city’s rich history, but also usher it into a new era, while changing the look of the Sin City skyline forever.
