San Francisco 49ers

After seven weeks, the 49ers were 3-4 and had lost their starting quarterback.

They haven’t lost since.

San Francisco has won 12 straight games, including wins over the Cowboys and Seahawks in the playoffs. They rolled to an NFC West title and No. 2 seed.

The 49ers are on their third starting quarterback, and no one would’ve thought the seventh-round rookie was going to be the best of the bunch. Brock Purdy has improved the San Francisco offense, though, at least in terms of efficiency.

It helps when you have weapons like Purdy has. The 49ers already had the versatile Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk at wide receiver, as well as George Kittle. Adding Christian McCaffrey has taken San Francisco to the next level, though.

No rookie starting quarterback has ever made the Super Bowl, let alone won it
Purdy is the second rookie quarterback since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to win each of his first seven career starts (Ben Roethlisberger).

Philadelphia Eagles

From start to finish, the Eagles have been the best team in the NFC.

The Eagles have won 13 or more games in the regular season three times in franchise history. They made the Super Bowl the previous two times, back in 2004 and 2017.

Philadelphia will be used to playing at Lincoln Financial Field. This will be the Eagles' fourth straight home game. The last time they played on the road was back on Christmas Eve.

The Eagles are one of three teams to rank in the top six in Football Outsiders' Overall, Offensive and Defensive DVOA during the regular season. The other two were the 49ers and Bills.

Most importantly, the Eagles are 14-1 this season when Jalen Hurts starts. Two of their three regular-season losses came with Gardner Minshew starting under center.

Betting Stats

49ers

In October or later, Purdy was 26-12 straight-up (SU) at Iowa St and 7-0 with the 49ers (32-12 overall).

San Francisco is 12-1 SU and 10-3 against the spread (ATS) since acquiring Christian McCaffrey.

Eagles

The Eagles were favored by at least three points in every game Jalen Hurts started this season, and that was back in Week 2 against the Vikings. Since then, the smallest spread in an Eagles game with Hurts starting was 4.5 back on Dec. 4, when they blew out the Titans. Philadelphia was a 3.5-point underdog in Dallas on Christmas Eve when Minshew started.

The Eagles were 8-9 ATS in the regular season. That includes failing to cover in their last four games. In the Divisional Round against the Giants, though, Philly comfortably covered the 7.5-point spread.
