Cowboys vs Buccaneers Preview
The Buccaneers head to Dallas to play their second game with backup rookie QB Jalon Daniels.
Week 4's matchup against the Packers in Tampa Bay was respectable, as the Buccaneers lost 17-14 and never trailed by more than two scores. Unfortunately, this game could get out of hand for Tampa against a Cowboys team that is getting stronger and heating up.
Dallas just added talented CB Joey Porter Jr. last week and will activate OG Tyler Smith for tonight's matchup. This team, with Super Bowl aspirations in 2026, has a very good roster despite its .500 record. The Cowboys lost to a full-strength Giants roster on the road in Week 1 and a talented Ravens team in Week 3. Both losses were by one score.
Dallas's line has jumped from -3.5 at open to -9. This is largely due to the absence of Baker Mayfield, but it may not fully price in the drop from Mayfield to Daniels.
Daniels is an athletic QB, but he was a six-year college athlete. He also was not a sure thing at Kansas at times, with backup QB Jason Bean occasionally starting.
The Buccaneers shifted to an extreme running split in Week 4 with Daniels at the helm. They ran the ball 31 times and only attempted 27 passes. This was in a matchup they played from behind for the entire second half. This gap should be even wider against the Cowboys and their top-five passing attack.
Tampa Bay ranks 19th in DVOA against the pass (via FTN), while ranking fifth against the rush. Dak Prescott and company will have their way with the Buccaneers' weak secondary. Coming off a game with 21 targets to star WR CeeDee Lamb, Prescott may pepper his WR1-B, George Pickens.
Pickens was only targeted three times (but earned 75 yards) in Week 4's close win against the Texans. He has been a team player in 2026 after deciding to play on the franchise tag and may be kept at ease with a higher-target game. His 18.2% target share this year is much lower than usual. Take Pickens to go over his 4.5 receptions line at -125 as the first leg of this parlay.

Next, add Tyler Goodson to go over 4.5 rush attempts at +125. Goodson has nine rushes in the past two games. He is occasionally spelling starting RB Javonte Williams on drives and could be asked to do more in a short week, with an expected high-margin win for Dallas.
Lastly, with Dallas likely leading this matchup, expect the Buccaneers' script to flip from Week 4's run-heavy approach. They could be trailing by multiple scores earlier, and this will task Daniels with more passing attempts.
Emeka Egbuka saw a season-low four targets in Week 4, after starting the season with 20 targets in three games.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles acknowledged that Egbuka and veteran WR Chris Godwin needed the ball more after the game, and this could result in more screens or short passes Tampa throws to create yards after the catch.
This will be necessary when facing a Cowboys defense that ranks 14th against the run and last against the pass.
