Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview: Nightmare Situational Spot

The Cowboys hit the road after participating in an international game in Brazil following a devastating loss to the Ravens, which is historically a nightmare situational spot.

The primary issue for Dallas, however, is a defense that is completely falling apart.

The Cowboys are last in defensive EPA per play and are decimated by injuries at the second level with DeMarvion Overshown, Cobie Durant, Malik Hooker, and Dee Winters all banged up. Dallas could be be forced to trot out multiple rookies at linebacker.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker continues to run heavy single-high safety coverage, which is a fatal structural flaw against this specific matchup.

Houston Texans Betting Preview: Nico Collins Returns

The Texans are far better than their record implies, having narrowly missed wins against Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis.

Everything changes for Houston with the return of wide receiver Nico Collins. He is a legitimate superstar who shreds single-high coverage, and Houston’s rushing success rate increases significantly when Collins is on the field to stretch the defense.

Defensively, Houston boasts arguably the best corner trio and edge-rush tandem (Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter) in the league.

The Texans should be able to dominate a Dallas offensive line that is missing star guard Tyler Smith.

Cowboys vs Texans Prediction, Betting Analysis

I am laying the points with the Texans here.

C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins historically obliterate the exact single-high looks that Dallas has been running at a high rate this season.

Houston’s superb defensive front will likely overwhelm Dak Prescott, while the Texans offense capitalizes on a battered, rookie-laden Cowboys linebacker corps.

Since 2015, Week 4 teams with at least one win facing 0-3 teams are 24-9-1 (73%) ATS. I'll lay the field goal and back Houston to get off the schneid.

Pick: Texans -3 (-110)
