We have a lot to be excited about in Zach Wilson's return because Wilson, coupled with the Jets' weapons, could turn New York into an explosive offense.

On the other side,  Mitch Trubisky is not the person you want quarterbacking your squad. Mike Tomlin can certainly coach, but there isn't a lot to like with this team, especially without T.J. Watt.

Let's dig into this matchup.

Jets vs. Steelers DVOA Breakdown

Overall DVOA1912
Pass DVOA2312
Rush DVOA1717
Offense

Overall DVOA1632
Pass DVOA1732
Rush DVOA412

This is an ugly game. There is not a lot to like about either side, especially with all the injuries. That said, the Steelers' offense is inept and has limited potential with Trubisky. It seems like a matter of time until Kenny Pickett takes over under center and potentially unleashes the likes of Diontae Johnson and George Pickens.

Defensively, the Steelers seem solid. However, without Watt, there is a lot left to be desired. The pass rush obviously suffers without the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and the star is now Minkah Fitzpatrick, who can only make so much of an impact at safety.

On the other side, the Jets get their supposed star quarterback back in Wilson. The problem with the offense to date has clearly been Joe Flacco, who hasn't done anything to help the Jets this year. There are a ton of weapons and the team has yet to fully utilize the star players they've drafted. Garrett Wilson is clearly a star and Elijah Moore has so much more to offer.

While Moore didn't exactly thrive last season, there's reason to believe he will benefit from Wilson's return. The former No. 2 pick is much, much more mobile than Flacco and can extend plays, which will help both him and Garrett Wilson.

The Jets defense presents a potential get-right spot for Trubisky to save his job. New York ranks last in overall DVOA on defense and last against the pass. If Trubisky cannot put points up against the Jets, there's a good chance he can't do it against anyone.

Betting Picks

Given the total, this game is expected to be incredibly ugly, but I think there is value on the New York Jets. I have this game projected at 2.8 points to the favorite, so I expect the Steelers to win. However, I have Pittsburgh rated slightly lower than the rest of the market.

I like the Jets with Wilson back at the helm. He should bring more explosiveness than we've seen so far and will hopefully fulfill his destiny as the next great Jets quarterback.
