Packers vs Cowboys Preview

Two of the league's most storied franchises face off in this week's edition of Sunday Night Football.

The Cowboys head to Green Bay for their second of three straight island games. Dallas carries a 2-3 record and looks to tie the Packers at .500 by the end of regulation.

The Cowboys are better than their record and could have a stronger second half of the season, especially on defense, but their recent addition of CB Joey Porter Jr. may not pay off yet. Porter is battling an ankle injury after missing Week 5's Thursday Night Football contest with an illness. Once he is healthy and fully integrated into the defense, we should see better results.

On the opposing end, star Green Bay EDGE Micah Parsons was initially expected to return for this matchup, but he continues to rehab a torn left ACL/meniscus. Also, troubled RB Josh Jacobs returns to practice on Monday, with a potential activation as early as Week 7 against Detroit.

The Packers are an ascending team this season, with one of the league's best passing offenses and a top-10 pass defense by DVOA (via FTN). However, the Packers have the fewest rushing yards per game and are a sieve against the run (28th in DVOA).

Fortunately, MarShawn Lloyd provided a bright spot for the Packers' rushing attack in Week 5. He scored two touchdowns on 10 carries and looked much more capable as a rusher, despite averaging 3.1 yards per carry.

The Packers' elite passing game led by Jordan Love drives this offense, but with Jacobs returning next week and Lloyd having a successful Week 5 outing, Green Bay may hand Lloyd more opportunities tonight. Green Bay's offensive line ranks as the seventh-best matchup vs. the opposing defensive line for the week (via FantasyPoints), and they are 1.5-point favorites.

Lloyd's 42.5-yard rushing line is high. He has never reached that mark in six career games since 2024. The oft-injured RB hit his career-high 37 rushing yards in Week 1, then was staggered between veteran Chris Brooks and sophomore Kaleb Johnson.

Nevertheless, Brooks is on injured reserve, and Johnson was relegated to fourth-quarter clean-up work in Week 5.

Johnson's role should carry into Week 6 unless Lloyd gets hurt again. After his second-career double-digit carry game, take Lloyd over 42.5 rushing yards (-114) as the first leg of tonight's parlay.

Furthermore, two notable Cowboys have excellent receiving matchups against the Packers.

Green Bay is 11th in zone rate this season, with the fifth-highest usage of two-high safety coverage. Both CeeDee Lamb and Javonte Williams are better against zone than man in 2026, while also better against two-high than one-high safety coverage.

The Cowboys will lean on RB Javonte Williams against the Packers' bottom-five rushing defense, but will need to mix it up against a defensive line that matches up well against Dallas' offensive line. Williams has a quality 10.8% target share this season and should continue operating as a receiver against the Packers. His 13.5 receiving-yards line is only (-114), despite crossing that mark in four of five games.

Lastly, superstar WR CeeDee Lamb has the best matchup of the day. He is healthy after a quad injury limited him in Week 5 and is ready to continue his 2026 domination. Lamb crossed his 80.5-yard receiving line in three straight games before getting hurt in Week 5, and he should do it again in Week 6.

Like Williams, Lamb has a higher yards-per-route rate despite similar targets per route against two-high and zone coverage. Add Lamb over 80.5 receiving yards (-118) as the final leg of this parlay and enjoy SNF!
