Panthers vs Lions Preview
The Lions head to Carolina to face a decimated Panthers roster.
Week 3 was not kind to the Panthers' rest-of-season outlook. Starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson were both placed on injured reserve, while offensive cornerstones Jalen Coker and Damien Lewis suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, the Lions are mostly healthy, but struggling to defend. They have allowed 31.7 points per game through the first month of the season.
The only reinforcement is the impending return of star safety Brian Branch. Unfortunately, Branch is returning from a torn achilles tendon and may not be himself this season (or ever again).
This matchup has a total of 51.5, despite potential weather conditions, for a reason.
Carolina's defense ranks 18th in DVOA (via FTN), while the Detroit's defense ranks 28th. The Panthers defense may be worse than the Lions' going forward, with Carolina's secondary now starting backups at multiple CB slots.
This will likely be a game where the Lions lead early (-3.5 favorites on the road) and force Carolina to throw throughout the second half. Carolina's offense has started much better than expected, but without Coker or Lewis, explosive plays may be limited.
The Panthers can still score, but they must rely on their secondary pass-catchers.

Former first-round pick Xavier Legette is out, allowing for explosive depth WR Brycen Tremayne to fill in and play a season-high number of snaps. His 1.80 yards per route run this season and 9.6 career yards per target make him a solid target for Bryce Young.
Furthermore, offseason addition Darren Waller will be needed more than usual. He has a 19.4% target share per route this season and has proven himself valuable with two touchdowns in three games. Take the over on Waller (3.5 REC +100) and Tremayne (2.5 REC -119).
Also, Jahmyr Gibbs is on a ridiculous pace. He is second in rushes inside the 20 and inside the 5, leads the NFL with six total TDs, and is facing the league's 23rd-ranked rushing defense.
This game is a perfect spot for Gibbs to find the end zone multiple times for the third time in four games. Take him at +142 to score twice and add it to today's parlay.
