Super Bowl Spread: 49ers-Chiefs Line Moves Full Point at FanDuel

The Super Bowl spread opened at 49ers -2.5 after they won the NFC Championship Game against the Lions. That was quickly bet down to -1.5, and then it settled for a while at -2.

There was one outlier, though, and that was FanDuel.

FanDuel had 49ers -2.5 at -105 and Chiefs +2.5 at -115 for a few days heading into Super Bowl weekend. Then, on Saturday morning, we woke up to 49ers -1.5 at -112.

It was a drastic change for the biggest sportsbook in the United States, which held on at a 2.5-point spread as long as it could. It appears, though, the flurry of bets coming in on the Chiefs finally got to them.

Super Bowl Betting Market

According to Action Network’s public betting data, 69% of bets and 78% of the money has been on the Chiefs at +2. After many faded Patrick Mahomes in the AFC Championship Game as an underdog, it appears the majority of bettors are not planning on doing that again.

According to Vegas Insider’s Patrick Everson, the action is pretty similar at BetMGM. There, 67% of tickets and 78% of the money is on Kansas City, as well as 78% of tickets and 83% of money on the moneyline.

TwinSpires also told Everson, “The Chiefs are clearly the popular side in this matchup. It’s hard to pass up on Patrick Mahomes as an underdog.”

In his career, Mahomes is 9-3 straight-up as an underdog and he’s 10-1-1 against the spread. According to Action Network’s Evan Abrams, this will be Mahomes’ fourth playoff game as an underdog. He won the first three.
