The drama around Micah Parsons and his contract with the Dallas Cowboys has dominated headlines all offseason, and the saga has sparked strong opinions across the league. Two-time Super Bowl champion and Ravens legend Terrell Suggs added his voice to the conversation, delivering sharp words about Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ handling of their star linebacker.
In an interview with The Action Network, Suggs gave his unfiltered take on the Parsons situation, Jerry Jones’ role in the drama, and why the Cowboys can’t afford to let their defensive cornerstone walk.
Micah Parsons has proven his worth
For Suggs, Parsons has already done everything to prove his worth.
“Micah Parsons has been one of the best players in the league since he showed up. His resume speaks for itself. It's not like he has a reputation of being injury prone, the reputation of being like a quote unquote diva. He doesn't have that.”
The Jerry Jones Problem
To Suggs, the Cowboys’ biggest obstacle isn’t Parsons — it’s ownership.
“Jerry Jones – I call him Calvin Candie*. As long as he’s in his role, [the Cowboys] are never gonna win the Super Bowl. You know the definition of insanity, right? To do the same thing over and over and expect different results. Y'all haven't been in the show since ‘95. Let's be honest, he needs to remove himself, take his ego out of it and let someone who could see it kind of with fresh eyes.”
Why Dallas Can’t Afford to Lose Parsons
Suggs made it clear that Parsons is the type of player a franchise should build around, not play contract games with.
“Micah Parsons is one of those talents that you don't let walk out of the door.”
He compared the situation to how his Ravens organization always made sure to take care of their core players.
“That's why we love our Ravens organization because if you are a Raven, they're gonna do good by you. There ain't no number that's too big or too ridiculous. If you are one of us, we're gonna get this done and we're not gonna let you spend your best years on another team.”
He pointed to the Giants’ decision to let Saquon Barkley leave as a cautionary tale.
“Look what happened with the Giants and Saquon Barkley. They let their best player walk out of the building and not only did he win a Super Bowl, he almost won the MVP! So you don't want that to happen. You definitely don't want Micah Parsons to leave Dallas. Now you gotta face him.”
For Suggs, it’s not just about talent — it’s also about culture.
“I just hate it, because Micah Parsons has bled for that team. He's given it all and he showed up and he's been consistent. From what I hear, everybody loves him in the locker room. He's the locker room guy. He can shape your culture. You don't wanna let him walk out the building.”
Suggs believed that the Cowboys' team leaders should have stepped in and said something.
“I'm not sure if their captain on the team, their quarterback [Dak Prescott], I'm not sure if he spoke up and said anything. But if he hasn't, he needs to. Do not let this guy walk out the building. We don't want to have to face him on Sundays.”
Early DPOY Favorites
When asked who he thinks will win Defensive Player of the Year, Suggs named a few frontrunners.
“Myles Garrett has been one of the best players in the league, consecutive years in a row. And of course, Patrick Surtain II won it last year. Micah Parsons – he's also a candidate.”

Suggs added a reminder that health always plays a factor, but if Parsons were to win, it would be another chapter in his case for long-term security.
“It is hard to say. And plus everybody gotta stay healthy. But off the top of my head, if Micah Parsons got it, that would kind of solidify his argument, so to speak.”
