Senators vs Sabres Pick
The Senators (9-6-1) are slumping lately, going 4-5-1 in their last 10 games. This is a team that badly misses its starting goaltender, Linus Ullmark, who is currently sidelined with a lower-body strain. Backup Samuel Ersson has struggled as Ullmark's replacement, putting up a 3.79 GAA and .866 SV% on the season. Ottawa has allowed 4+ goals in three of their last four games, including six vs. the Kings and Ducks.
On the other side, the Sabres (7-4-3) are starting to play well, currently on a three-game winning streak. What makes this more impressive is that it came on the tail end of their four-game road trip, where they went on the West Coast to take on the Sharks, Ducks, and Kings.
Given the opposite forms of each team, I like getting the Sabres at a relatively short price at home. At the time of this article, you can get them around -125 on the moneyline. The reason why this line is so cheap is that the Sabres are playing their first game at home since being in California for three games. However, that risk of fatigue is mitigated by the fact that they've had three days of rest leading up to this game.
Given Ottawa's recent struggles, we'll ride with Sabres ML here.
Pick: Sabres Moneyline
Flames vs Kraken Pick
The Flames (7-8-0) are allowing 3.53 goals per game, which ranks 27th in the NHL. Their power play has been quietly lethal, ranking fourth on the year, which is good news for them because they aren't effective on 5-on-5 situations.
The Kraken (8-5-1) have similarly had a tough time keeping the puck out of the net, ranking 29th in goals allowed per game. What's been a challenge for Seattle has been the penalty kill, where they rank 30th on the year. That's bad news against an effective Flames' power play.
Then, we have to consider that these are familiar opponents. This will already be the fourth meeting of the year. Check out the scorelines of the previous matchups: 6-2 (Oct. 30), 6-1 (Oct. 4), 6-1 (Oct. 1).
When you consider these factors, it's easy to see why I like Over 6.5 in this spot.
