Ben Shelton vs Marton Fucsovics Preview, Prediction

Ben Shelton Betting Preview

It's been an up-and-down grass season for American Ben Shelton. The Atlanta native reached the semifinal at Stuttgart but was shocked out of Queen's and Mallorca in the first round by Arthur Rinderknech and Learner Tien, respectively.

Shelton's been in solid form since stepping into the All England Club, however, with straight-set wins against Aussies Alex Bolt and Rinky Hijikata.

It's no fluke.

Shelton was aggressive from the baseline against Hijikata, blasting 39 winners in the match. The American was also tuned in with another of his big weapons: the serve. He landed 11 aces en route to winning 75% of his points with the first serve and denied his rival a single break during the match.

Shelton must also be smelling an opportunity here. The 2025 Australian Open semifinalist is just one result away from tying his best performance at Wimbledon.

Defeats to Lorenzo Musetti and Ugo Humbert mean Shelton won't face a seeded player until a potential semifinal matchup with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, where anything can happen.

Marton Fucsovics Betting Preview

Barring Argentine Solana Sierra's lucky loser miracle run in the women's draw and August Holmgren's win in an unending five-setter with four tiebreaks, 33-year-old Hungarian Marton Fucsovics has been the story of the tournament.

The former world No. 31 has found a new head of steam in this grass season, pushing into the quarterfinals in Stuttgart. It wasn't enough to save him from the qualifiers draw, where the Hungarian fell at the last hurdle, falling in four sets to Luxembourg's Chris Rodesch. However, Rodesch fell in the first round, and Fucsovics is playing on.

There are questions about how long he can stick around, however.

His tightly contested win against France's Gael Monfils was Fucsovics's second straight five-set match, meaning he's already been on court for just under 10 hours.

That goes to just over 15 hours if you count his qualifiers' antics. While grass is a surface that favors short points and reduces exhaustion, it's bound to affect him.

Shelton vs Fucsovics Predictions, Betting Analysis

Shelton is truly on a roll at Wimbledon. The American hasn't always been at the top of his game this season, but he's found a groove and there are few reasons to think it'll end in this round.

The same can be said about a Fucsovics, who had a win at the Manama Challenger as his best result of the year. The Hungarian has shown he's a tricky player who can complicate things for top players on grass.

However, considering the grind he has had to endure to reach this stage and the difference in caliber of players, I don't think he has the firepower to nullify Shelton.

It then becomes a matter of whether the American can remain focused throughout the match. That line of questioning got an answer when his game against Hijikata got suspended on Thursday at 6-2, 7-5, 5-4 and serve to Shelton, only for the Atlanta native to come back on Friday and serve it out in just over a minute.

But with Shelton the heavy favorite, I see a lot more value in pondering whether Fucsovics can push him past the total, and that's something I can't see happening, even if it goes to four sets.

Pick: Under 40.5
