French sensation Arthur Fils had to fight a diehard Nicolas Jarry to get through to his first-ever Roland Garros second round. In doing so, Fils showed that there's more than flair and explosiveness to his game, and while the home crowd surely pushed him in the most challenging moments, it's not an advantage he's going to lose any time soon.

Barcelona semifinalist and Monte-Carlo Masters quarterfinalist this clay swing, Fils adjusted his game after the third set, when Jarry found some success switching to a serve-and-volley game, showcasing adaptability and tennis smarts.

Across the net will be clay-court specialist Jaume Munar, who has a game resembling that of the Spanish greats of old (think Sergi Bruguera, Albert Costa and Alex Corretja). He has been in erratic form this season, mixing a round of 16 appearance in the Rome Masters with first-round oustings at Geneva and Morocco.

Munar survived a baseline grunt battle against a similar player in Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Unlike Ugo Carabelli, however, Munar will find in Fils a player who can up the tempo of play at will.

While I don't doubt Munar will fight like there's no tomorrow, I'm taking three sets to be played, and I expect Fils to make it to the third round.

In 2019, Alex de Minaur lost to Jannik Sinner in the ATP NextGen Finals. The year before, he had been the runner-up as well, while Stefanos Tsitsipas claimed the title.

de Minaur was supposed to be among the star players. Considering how far those two rivals have come, if there is a chance for him to leave his mark, the window is closing.

The Australian has won nine singles titles, but Grand Slams are his debt, with five quarterfinal appearances as his most significant accomplishment.

The good news is four of those have come in a row: from last year's Roland Garros to this year's Australian Open.

In Paris, de Minaur beat Laslo Djere in straight sets — 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(6) — with some issues with his first serve (44% effectiveness), but was clinical when he had the chance, converting four-of-five break points.

His rival in this second round, Alexander Bublik, probably won't be so forgiving of such a poor service game.

Ranked 62nd and with four ATP titles on his resume, Bublik is probably better known for his antics and trick shots. He has made the underhand serve one of his trademarks and occasionally finishes points at the net with his racket handle.

Neither of them has won a singles tournament on clay. Bublik has a really good serve, racking up 16 aces in his previous match in Paris, so he could really make life difficult for de Minaur.

On the other hand, the Australian has won all three matches between them and has the experience and momentum, but could struggle during this match.

Pick: Over 32.5 (-115 via DraftKings)

Schedule makers at Roland Garros must be making their best effort to turn World No. 1 Jannik Sinner into public enemy No. 1 in Paris.

Fresh from beating home favorite Arthur Rinderknech in his debut, the Italian now has to face not only another Frenchman, but one that many will cheer for with passion.
