Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic Wimbledon Preview

Sinner Betting Preview

Many feared world No. 1 Jannik Sinner's run at Wimbledon was done after only booking his ticket to the quarterfinals thanks to rival Grigor Dimitrov's pectoral muscle tear in the fourth round.

Moreover, a slip in the first set of that match against Dimitrov, which led to some discomfort in the Italian's elbow, looked to seal the deal.

Sinner wore a white sleeve on his right arm with strips of tape visible underneath in his matchup against American Ben Shelton, and seemed to flinch as a mishit return looked to hurt a bit more than usual, but that was about all the effect it had.

The Italian came out firing against Shelton to secure a semifinal spot in straight sets — he proved many doubters wrong in the process.

Sinner served incredibly, going on to win 89% of points played with his first serve, including seven aces. In fact, the Italian only allowed Shelton two break-point chances, both coming in the second set, but it was to no avail.

"Just takes one little dip from him. Be ready for the opportunity to take it," former tour pro Bryan Shelton (Ben Shelton's father and coach), told Ben at 2-2 in the third.

But there was no dip; Sinner closed down the third with a break in ruthless fashion and booked his spot in his second career Wimbledon semis.

Djokovic Betting Preview

Novak Djokovic's run into the quarters hadn't had such a lucky escape as Sinner's, but the 24-time Grand Slam winner had been far from his best form.

Dropped sets against France's Alexander Muller and Australia's Alex de Minaur showed the Serb, who bypassed any Wimbledon preparations, wasn't firing on all cylinders.

It was more of the same in his quarterfinal matchup against Italian Flavio Cobolli.

Djokovic struggled to secure a nervy first set on the tiebreak, which went the Italian's way, but then took advantage of his opponent's inexperience in the second, racing to a 6-2 win to tie it all 1-1.

Cobolli fired up again in the third, using his entire arsenal to recoup from going down early on. As he rode the support of the crowd, Djokovic complained about the sunshine and shadow split on the court — his frustration visible — but the Serb eventually got his game back together to wrap up the third set.

Djokovic's experience saw out the fourth set, as Cobolli struggled once again, but it wasn't all good news for the Serb.

A fall during the final game seems to have somewhat impeded the former world No. 1 — he since cancelled his Thursday afternoon practice session.

Sinner vs Djokovic Predictions, Betting Analysis

Sinner might be lucky to still be in the tournament, but in truth, those two sets before Dimitrov's body gave up on him once again were the only moments the world No. 1 has seemed out of sorts. Sinner looked unstoppable against Shelton, although the American has a far more limited arsenal than the Bulgarian — or Djokovic, for that matter.

Still, it's not like the Italian has to prove he can beat Djokovic. Four of their last nine matchups have gone Sinner's way, including the 2025 French Open semis.

Granted, Djokovic is 2-0 ahead on grass, having beaten Sinner in the 2022 quarters — where he came back from two sets down — and the 2023 semis, but neither is the same player as they were then.

At 38, Djokovic needs a quick match, even if he's not hurting from that late fall. If he's not two sets up before the two-hour mark, I can't see him winning either the semi or even a potential final.

However, the way Sinner has been serving suggests it'll be more of a grind, and anything over straight sets favors the Italian.

Ultimately, I'm backing Sinner to make his first final at the All England Club.
