Kenny Ducey's Jarry vs Norrie Preview, Prediction
Nicolas Jarry Betting Preview
It's been a scintillating run on the grass over the last couple of weeks for Nicolas Jarry, who entered well outside of the top 100 but has quickly recovered his ranking with a charge through qualifying and a few big wins in the main draw.
Jarry kicked things off with an upset win over Holger Rune, who did his best to disparage him afterwards with a quip that he'd beat him nine times out of 10 if healthy.
Those comments didn't age well, however, as the Chilean went out and served 80% in a dominant win over Learner Tien and toppled young upstart Joao Fonseca in four sets in the last round.
The question on everyone's mind is whether or not the veteran can sustain his fitness as we approach the second week at the All England Club.
Jarry not only had to come through qualifying, but go five sets in his opening round, and his service numbers dipped in the third round — as did his performance behind his second serve.
Cameron Norrie Betting Preview
Cameron Norrie hasn't been to the fourth round of Wimbledon since his semifinal run in 2022, but he's also been nothing like his former self in the past two seasons.
That can all change in an instant in the game of tennis, and Norrie is doing his best to restore some confidence in his once-steady game.
The Brit is well-suited for grass courts with his low, flat backhand and his sliding serve into the ad side. It's not exactly his best surface judging by the numbers, but from 2021-23 he did amass an impressive 17-7 record, which proves he's just as good off of clay or a hardcourt.
After a couple of poor showings leading up to Wimbledon, the 29-year-old has come out swinging with two wins over tough cookies in Roberto Bautista-Agut and Frances Tiafoe, and a convincing performance against tricky lefty Mattia Bellucci.
Norrie did land fewer first serves in that one, but he maintained his excellence on second-serve points and still managed to hit 64% of his first deliveries in. It was a dominant match by the scoreline, but Norrie could have easily played better with a poor winner-to-unforced-error count.
Jarry vs Norrie Predictions, Betting Analysis
These two have met twice on tour level, with Jarry taking the first match in straight sets on a fast outdoor hardcourt and Norrie answering back with a three-set win on the clay in Rome. Those meetings were six and seven years ago, however, and both have had different journeys to this point.
I'm backing Norrie here as the fitter of the two players.
While I do doubt Jarry's energy level after a couple of long matches, it's hardly a slight considering Norrie is one of the fittest men on tour. We can be reasonably confident he'll look the fresher of the two, and his performance on return has been brilliant against two fairly big hitters in the last two rounds.
In a first-round encounter, I'd be inclined to back Jarry to hit Norrie off the court, but with a powerful home crowd and a bit of fatigue setting in, a suddenly reborn Norrie should punch his ticket to the quarterfinals.
Pick: Norrie ML (-120)
