Atletico Madrid vs. Arsenal
Both teams needed a penalty to score in the first leg, but there were plenty of chances in the game. The second leg has the potential for goals, with a trailing team likely to throw everything at their opponent. Therefore, we are tipping both teams to score in this game.
Atletico Madrid had an xG (expected goals) of 2.21 in the first leg, whereas Arsenal finished the game with an xG of 1.51. Mikel Arteta will expect his team to create more in front of a home crowd, but Atleti certainly have what it takes to trouble Arsenal.
Atletico Madrid’s Champions League matches have been goal-friendly affairs, with both teams scoring in 12 of their 14 matches in the competition. During that run, Diego Simeone’s side scored an average of 2.43 goals per game and conceded 1.85.
Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.86 goals per away match in the Champions League this season, conceding 2.29. Arsenal are scoring an average of 2.33 goals per home game in this competition, and they come into the second leg knowing they need a goal to avoid extra-time, so they should have plenty of chances.
Pick: Both Teams To Score – Yes
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich
Scoring one goal and defending for the rest of the game is not an option for Bayern in this second leg. Not because we had a nine-goal thriller last week in Paris, but because their defense has proven they can’t stop the reigning European champions.
PSG has many offensive weapons and can hurt Bayern, which was evident last week when each of PSG’s five shots on target ended behind Manuel Neuer’s back. Undoubtedly, the visitors are going to score a goal or two here, at least, but Bayern have the quality to answer on the other end and outscore any team in Europe.
Not only did Bayern score four in the first leg, but they have scored over 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 17 matches in all competitions, including six of their previous seven games. Vincent Kompany’s team scored over 2.5 goals in each of their last seven matches at Allianz Arena, while they average 3.23 per match in the Champions League this season.
Bayern won all six of their home matches in the competition and scored 20 goals in the process – a 3.33 goals per game on average.
