Hawaii vs Arizona State College Football Preview
Hawaii Warriors Betting Preview: [Editorial Language]
Hawaii has been one of the most disappointing teams in the G6 as the team has struggled with continuity, injuries, and offensive potency. This season was thought by most to be one where Hawaii would take a big step toward contention in the Mountain West. The offense has struggled with finding downfield explosiveness and the defense has battled injury and depth concerns, and there is a real chance Hawaii not only does not exceed preseason expectations, but this team might not qualify for a bowl game.
The offense has been completely disjointed all season for Hawaii, outside of a small stretch in the opener against Stanford. Six points were scored at home against UNLV, and a pair of losses saw offensive outputs of ten and 16 points against Wyoming and San Jose State, respectively. Quarterback Micah Alejado is sensational, but he has been sacked 14 times this season and pressured countless others. The offensive line has allowed 31 tackles-for-loss, and the most concerning element has been the lack of downfield pass explosiveness realized all season.
Star receiver Pofele Ashlack has not played a snap this season, and now Hawaii is dealing with injuries to Audric Harris and Carson Brown at the receiver position. Cam Barfield was thought to be a major contributor on the offensive end, and he has just 85 scrimmage yards all season as the ground attack has been virtually non-existent.
The Hawaii defense has hung in there the last four weeks against G6 competition, but the Bows generate very little defensive havoc, and this unit struggles situationally. Hawaii does not do well to get their opponents off the field on third down, and too many red zone trips have had to be defended. Hawaii has a poor tackling defense that grades out as the second-worst in the conference, per PFF, and injuries to the front seven have made the run defense a glaring weakness.
Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Preview: [Editorial Language]
Arizona State was embarrassed last week against Baylor after the bye week following a game played in London, England. The defense could not stop the run and despite its best attempts, the offense could not keep pace with the Bears in the second half. The team was competitive for three quarters at Texas A&M and found a way to win the neutral-site conference game against Kansas, but the Sun Devils are doing a little soul-searching here this week, and this offense needs to get something going before stepping back into conference play following this game.
Cutter Boley has thrown the ball really well this year and has 1040 passing yards with ten passing touchdowns, while Kyson Brown is the featured running back and leads the group with 261 rushing yards. The Sun Devils want to throw the ball to Reed Harris and Omarion Miller, and these two are electric when they get the ball in their hands. We should see Harris and Miller find explosive plays in the passing game in this one against Hawaii.
The Arizona State defense hasn’t looked good the last couple of weeks while surrendering a combined 978 yards to Kansas and Baylor, and stopping the run has been the major culprit. The defense has registered a decent amount of havoc the last two weeks, and Arizona State’s weakness on this side of the football is likely not to be exploited here by Hawaii; so, as long as the Sun Devils can prevent explosive passes from the Hawaii passing attack, this defense should be in good shape here.

Hawaii vs Arizona State Pick, Betting Analysis
This line opened with Arizona State listed as a 20.5-point favorite with a total set at 49.5. I like the Sun Devils to bounce back from the embarrassing loss against Baylor and win this game convincingly.
Arizona State is going to have significant advantages in the trenches on both sides in this game. Hawaii’s offensive line is one of the weakest units in college football. Protecting Micah Alejado has not gone well, and this unit cannot open up rushing lanes for the running backs as Hawaii is averaging just 86 yards per game and 3.3 yards per carry on the ground. This rushing attack will not exploit the Arizona State defensive line, and problems will ensue when Hawaii has to line up and throw the ball from behind.
Hawaii’s defense is undersized and will struggle to stop Arizona State here. The unit is already down several starters who have been ruled out for the season or are banged up coming into this game, and I struggle to see a path for Hawaii providing pressure on Arizona State quarterback Cutter Boley.
Boley is going to connect on the pass explosives here. Arizona State has two dynamic receivers that Hawaii is going to struggle to cover. This defense has not shown up on the road this season, having given up 6.5 yards per play against Wyoming and Stanford away from the Island. Arizona State is going to get right in this game, and I am happy to lay -20.5.
Pick: Arizona State -20.5 (Also Play ASU Over 17.5 1H Points)
