2025 New York City Mayor Election Odds
Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani is the overwhelming favorite. Leading in most polls, Mamdani’s campaign has focused on the soaring cost of living in the Big Apple and promises to govern “for the many, not the few,” with proposals such as free public buses, rent control, and expanded affordable housing.
Mamdani rose to prominence after pulling off a surprise victory in the Democratic primary and has faced fierce criticism from opponents for his progressive stance within the party. Among his most vocal critics is President Donald Trump, who warned that Mamdani won’t be able to count on federal funding if he wins.
Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, the former governor of New York, trails far behind but is in second place. Cuomo resigned as governor in August 2021 amid a sexual harassment scandal. After losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, he’s now attempting to revive his political career through the mayor’s office.
In third place is Curtis Sliwa. A radio talk show host and leader of a nonprofit crime prevention organization, Sliwa is the Republican candidate in a city that has long been a Democratic stronghold.
The winner will serve a term through 2029, succeeding Eric Adams, who withdrew from the race last month amid mounting pressure to step aside following a series of scandals in his administration, including resignations and corruption allegations.
What is Kalshi?
Different than a traditional sportsbook and available in all 50 states, Kalshi allows users to make predictions across several unique markets, including sports, entertainment, elections and even weather.
Kalshi operates on a contract-based system where users buy "contracts" (priced between 1–99 cents) based on whether they believe a specific event will happen. The price of each contract fluctuates in real time based on market sentiment and like the stock market, traders can sell positions early to lock in profits (or minimize losses).
