By Grant Neiffer:
I've been researching all day — including reading Sean Zerillo's excellent Home Run Derby preview — but I keep circling back to one thing: the Rays' Junior Caminero to win.
Caminero is drastically undervalued and I'd bet him all the way to 10-to-1 odds.
The Rays' franchise pillar is second in the league in swing speed, which is the most important thing in an event like this. He won't be overswinging and I'm not really worried about him tiring out.
Pick: Junior Caminero Derby Winner (+1200 to +1000)

James Wood has been simulating Derby rounds over the past week and hitting baseballs to prep himself for the event.
I expect him to adjust his swing path and timing to pull more balls in the Derby. The batted-ball profile is the only red flag alongside the elite power metrics, and he's making a conscious effort to pull balls to right or right-center:
I project Oneil Cruz and Wood as the top two choices in the field.
Pick: James Wood Derby Winner (+400)

I already gave out one outright winner pick in Caminero, but there's value in double dipping with Brent Rooker at +1000.
He doesn't do anything great — if you look at his Statcast page, nothing necessarily pops out. However, he's pretty good at everything (average bat speed, exit velo, barrel rate) despite not being elite.
Like Caminero, I think Rooker's swing fits this format well and I'm not worried about him fatiguing.
At these odds, there's a lot of value here.
Pick: Brent Rooker Derby Winner (+1000)

Of all the exactas, this one is pretty wild.
If Cruz makes the finals, he'd be the heavy favorite no matter who he faces. This is too good to pass up.
Cruz is the Statcast darling and is the favorite of all the nerds while Caminero has the underlying bat speed, as I mentioned above.
