Astros vs Rockies Preview

The wind is blowing in, so it's not great weather at Coors Field. I dig downgrading my core impact for today relative to a normal day course, but I think the Astros in general are an Over team.

Their offense is mashing to start the season, but their pitching is not good. They have one good reliever in Brian Abreu, and maybe King as well.

Beyond that, I do not trust anybody coming out of that bullpen, and they just played a series against the Athletics where they had to use every pitcher in their bullpen every single day of that series because every team was scoring 10-plus runs a game.

Just like we see with the Coors Field effect, teams coming out of Sutter Health Park are so battered and so used up, especially their bullpens, that the subsequent series may be a little bit more difficult on them.

The Astros are moving from Sacramento to Colorado, and I couldn't imagine having a worse back-to-back series for your pitching staff than that one, or vice versa.

I've always been a little higher on Ryan Feltner than the market is. I think there is some talent there, but he does not project well at all.

I do not see the length for the Astros today. RHP Cody Bolton is getting his first career major league start today. In the only other outing he had this season, he went three innings.

I expect a lot of bad bullpenning on both sides of this matchup.

Astros vs Rockies Picks

This line has already moved up to 10.5. I make it 11 and a half. So I would bet this to 11 at minus one 10, not particularly hot.

Bad bullpens mean there will be a lot of runs late in this game. I make this a total of 11.5, so -110 is fine. There's still plenty of value where the market is currently.

Pick: Over 10.5
