Miami Marlins Betting Preview: Going to Sell?

The Marlins are not good this year, but at least they're respectable. They sit tied for second in a miserable NL East with a 13-16 record and -1 run differential.

This is an odd season for the Marlins because they could reasonably contend for a playoff spot. Nevertheless, they're expected to trade franchise ace Sandy Alcantara at some point this season (one of the most open secrets in baseball).

Alcantara's contract expires after next season's club option, and the Marlins are trying to recoup as much value as possible before then. Unfortunately for Miami, Alcantara hasn't helped his own trade value in recent starts.

Alcantara’s first three starts:

  • 16.3% K-BB
  • 0.74 ERA
  • 1.37 xERA
  • 3.74 xFIP

Alcantara’s last three starts:

  • 0.0% K-BB
  • 6.35 ERA
  • 6.24 xERA
  • 5.43 xFIP

He's very likely somewhere in between these metrics, which is an upgrade over his 2025 performance.

Furthermore, the Marlins have players who can replace him and a JAG (just a guy) like today's starter, Janson Junk. Robby Snelling and Braxton Garrett are dominating Triple-A right now and should be up in the coming months, if not weeks.

With Eury Perez and Max Meyer showing signs of their respective breakouts, this pitching staff should remain respectable post-Alcantara. It's just a shame that a team with an offense showing signs of life is predetermined to sell.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview: Highs and Lows

The Dodgers are coming off a last-second win on Monday night. This put them back in first place in the NL West and into a first-place tie for MLB's best record.

L.A. is experiencing the regular peaks and valleys of an MLB season, despite its immense level of talent.

Will Smith and Kyle Tucker are off to slow starts, Shohei Ohtani's bat is just great rather than elite, Mookie Betts is still out, and Teoscar Hernandez's bat has cooled significantly in the past 10 days.

Regardless, they have plenty going for them between Ohtani's pitching, Dalton Rushing's breakout, Andy Pages' bounce-back, and the resurgence of Tanner Scott.

They lost Edwin Diaz for at least the next three months but didn't have to flinch, given Scott and Alex Vesia's seasons thus far.

Overall, this is another Dodgers season that will have them contending for the World Series. Their only question marks are health, like any given franchise, but at least Betts and Blake Snell are on the mend.

Marlins vs Dodgers Pick, Betting Analysis

The aforementioned Junk and Ohtani will be taking the mound tonight. Both pitchers are having fantastic seasons, relative to expectations. Junk owns a 3.67 ERA, while Ohtani boasts an NL-best mark of 0.38.

Unfortunately, both pitchers are getting lucky. Junk's ERA is backed by a 4.41 xFIP and a 4.55 SIERA. Ohtani's is backed by a 3.18 xFIP and a 3.16 SIERA.

However, both starters' xERAs are closer to their ERA due to an increase in ground-ball rates.

The total for this game has dropped since the Dodgers announced that Ohtani will not start as a hitter, which not only removes his bat from the lineup. but causes less fatigue.

Rushing or Smith will likely DH tonight. This is a drop-off, but not a significant one, for the sake of this April.

Rushing's 288 wRC+ through 45 plate appearances in 2026 is ridiculous. It obviously won't remain that high, but he's showing the bat that made him a top prospect in the first place.

Thanks to Rushing's contributions, the Dodgers hold MLB's best team offense against right-handed pitching with a 127 wRC+, while the Marlins offense ranks eighth with a 109 wRC+.

Dodger Stadium is the best park in baseball for home runs across the past three seasons, with a park factor of 130, eight points higher than the next-best Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Junk and Ohtani have combined to give up two total home runs through the season (zero for Ohtani), but that should at least double tonight with the wind blowing out.

As a bonus, Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks won't pitch tonight after leaving the ninth inning last night due to a hand injury.

Pick: Over 7.5
