Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview

In most seasons, Brewers young star ace Jacob Misiorowski would be the frontrunner for the NL CY Young. He might not be quite to the level of Phillies star Cristopher Sanchez, but he's every bit as elite.

In his breakout sophomore year, The Miz owns a 1.83 ERA to go with a dazzling 2.14 xERA and 1.88 FIP. None of his dominance is due to luck; he's just that special, as evidenced by his 14.06 K/9.

He holds opponents to a .178 xBA and gets barreled just 2.4% of the time. Plus, he cut his BB/9 from 4.23 to 2.67. Improving his strike-throwing ability turned him into one of the game's most consistent arms.

After losing four of his first six outings, the Brewers have won four of the Miz's last five starts. He gave up just one earned run total in those outings, throwing 31 and 1/3 innings with 11 hits allowed and 49 strikeouts.

Having a strong rotation and pen is paramount due to the Brewers' offensive issues.

In May, their lack of power has come to the surface, hitting a league-worst 17 home runs. Still, they're running a 96 wRC+ for the month, putting them 17th. That's not bad for a team that has just two hitters with more than five homers.

The key for them is small-ball, hitting .248 in May (10th) and walking 9% of the time (11th). They will also look to steal in key moments to make up for it.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

Remember when Tatsuya Imai inked a short-term, medium AAV contract and everyone was shocked? Well, it turns out MLB teams knew more than the general public.

Imai owns a bloated 6.17 ERA, backed by ugly peripherals, namely a 5.53 xERA and a 6.02 FIP.

Here's the reality — A pitcher won't last long in an MLB rotation when issuing 6.94 BB/9. Imai walked 3+ hitters in four of five starts, including four in his last outing, when he and two Astros relievers tossed a combined no-hitter.

It would be nice if Imai fixes the walk issues, but he also ranks below the 25th percentile in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate. He also only throws two pitches more than 8% of the time, and his fastball is in the 93-96 range. The Miz can get away with throwing his heater that much; Imai can't with his velocity.

Once more, the Astros lineup is dealing with injuries… again. Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa are out, pushing names like Nick Allen and Braden Shewmake into regular AB's.

That has contributed to Houston posting an 87 wRC+ in May. In this matchup, the Astros' demise could stem from their approach at the plate. They own a 22% strikeout rate in May (12th) and walk just 7.3% of the time (24th).

Yordan Alvarez has been arguably the best hitter in the league this year, hitting a league-best 20 homers with a 1.062 OPS.

Houston needs the trio of Alvarez, Jeremy Pena and Christian Walker to carry this injury-riddled lineup. Pena hit a homer on Saturday, and Walker is always a threat to hit one over the Crawford Boxes.

Brewers vs Astros Pick, Betting Analysis

Milwaukee is a heavy road favorite of -186. Usually, I'd look to back a competent team like the Astros as such heavy home dogs.

That said, Houston will struggle to hit the regular 100+ mph fastballs from Misiorowski. He's one of the best pitchers in the league against a lineup with three (or four if you count Isaac Paredes) scary hitters. And in reality, the only one the Miz will have to pitch carefully to is Alvarez.

Give me the run line here with the Brewers.

Pick: Brewers -1.5 (-105, FanDuel | Play to -130)
