Orioles vs White Sox Preview

The Orioles look to get back on track as they face the White Sox, with Baltimore trying to shake off a recent skid against a Chicago team that struggled throughout last season.

Chicago finished with a 60-102 record and had issues on both sides of the ball, while Baltimore posted a 75-87 mark and showed flashes offensively, averaging nearly eight hits per game.

One notable angle in this game is that Grant Taylor is opening for the White Sox once again. He opened in back-to-back games against the Blue Jays over the weekend on Friday and Saturday, throwing nine perfect innings both times.

What’s important here is that most lineup projections have Adley Rutschman batting fourth tonight, which means he’s unlikely to face Taylor early on if things go as expected. Instead, he should begin his night against Erick Fedde, who is the more vulnerable pitcher in this matchup. Rutschman could see Fedde multiple times (at least twice) and potentially even three times if he lasts deep into the game.

Orioles vs White Sox Picks

I'm going with Adley Rutschman.

Against Fedde, Rutschman is expected to see a mix of cutters and changeups. Against both of those pitches, his expected metrics significantly outpace his actual production.

That’s typically a spot I like to target because it suggests we’re getting a discount in the market. Last season, he hit .205 and slugged .385 against cutters, but posted an expected batting average of .268 and an expected slugging of .497.

So I really like the price we’re getting on Rutschman here: over 1.5 total bases at +138 tonight.

Pick: Adley Rutschman Over 1.5 Total Bases
