Pirates vs Phillies MLB Betting Preview

Leg 1: Phillies F5 -0.5

For the front leg of our SGP for Tuesday night, I favor backing the Phillies on their F5 runline in what should be another exceptional outing from Cristopher Sanchez.

The 29-year-old has recorded an impressive 2.13 ERA on the season across 17 outings and 110 frames on the mound, which ranks fourth among qualified MLB starters.

The Phillies’ lefty boasts exceptional punchout prowess, having recorded 127 strikeouts, ranking second in all of baseball.

Sanchez has been quite efficient on the bump as well, with the Dominican having recorded a 1.11 WHIP to kick off his 2026 campaign thus far.

While Chandler has had some great outings on the mound in 2026 as well, the Pirates’ youngster has been very inconsistent and has frequently struggled with command.

In a matchup where the Phillies will be playing at their home ballpark and hold a significant starting-pitching edge, I feel very confident Philadelphia will prevail in the first half.

Leg 2: Bryce Harper Over 1.5 Total Bases

For the second leg of our SGP prior to Tuesday evening’s National League showdown, I favor backing Phillies’ slugger Bryce Harper to have a big day at the plate.

Despite the Pirates’ Chandler playing in just his second season in the Big Leagues, the 23-year-old has previously faced several hitters in the Phils’ lineup already.

In one prior at-bat against Chandler, the Phillies’ lefty launched a three-run homer into the stands in impressive fashion.

In addition to the psychological angle that comes with a young pitcher having to face a slugger of Harper’s caliber, Chandler’s having already allowed a moonshot to Philadelphia’s eight-time All-Star should pose even more of a mental hurdle for the Pirates’ youngster.

That said, I feel great backing Harper to build upon his previous success versus the Pirates’ right-hander and will be targeting the 33-year-old to exceed 1.5 total bases.

SGP Picks:

  • Phillies F5 -0.5
  • Bryce Harper Over 1.5 Total Bases
