Texas Rangers Betting Preview

The Texas Rangers are underperforming, sitting a few games under .500. MacKenzie Gore has not quite gotten off to the start that the Rangers hoped for when acquiring the former top prospect from Washington. Through seven starts, Gore has just a 4.67 ERA and has just one quality start.

We know Gore has great stuff and has elite strikeout upside. His 11.68 K/9 rate would be a career high and sits in the top 10% of the league. The problem has been that if he doesn’t miss the bat, he typically connects with the barrel. Gore has also struggled with command issues throughout his career, issuing too many walks and running up his pitch count early in his outings.

Just like last season, though, the biggest issue remains at the plate for the Rangers. They continue to be one of the worst offenses in the league, ranking 28th in runs scored and near the bottom of most offensive categories. They have a decent hard-hit rate but just struggle to consistently string together hits and have had issues with runners in scoring position.

Corey Seager has continued to slump at the plate after a down 2025 season. Youngsters Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter have failed to breakout, and veterans Jake Burger and Joc Pederson have been disappointed. The lone bright spot for Texas is Josh Jung, who is having an all-star caliber season with an OPS over .900, but he has been unable to carry this offense by himself.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Editor's Note: Ryan Weathers has been scratched due to illness.

The Yankees have the best record in the American League, not only because the Bronx Bombers have scored the most runs in the AL, but they also have allowed the fewest runs scored, thanks to elite pitching. New York has seemingly unlocked something with Ryan Weathers after acquiring him from Miami.

Weathers is posting career-bests across the board, currently holding a 3.03 ERA through seven starts. The Yankees have adjusted his pitch mix a bit, increasing his sweeper and sinker usage more, and relying less on his four-seamer. His sweeper has been excellent, causing his K/9 rate to jump from 8.69 last year to 10.47 this season.

Offensively, the Yankees continue to mash the ball. They have the best hitter in the league on their team… and also Aaron Judge. Is it time to have a passing of the torch conversation? All kidding aside, the top of this lineup with just Ben Rice is as good as it gets right now. Rice leads the league in OPS, and Judge sits atop the home run leaderboard.

Cody Bellinger is also crushing the ball right now, and Jazz Chisholm and Ryan McMahon have gotten going over the last week. New York leads the league in home runs and sits second in runs scored and team OPS. They generate a ton of walks and then put the ball in the seats, which has been a pretty good recipe.

Rangers vs Yankees Pick, Betting Analysis

Editor's Note: If you're looking for another bet on this game, Sean Zerillo placed a bet on the Over 8 after the starting pitching change, which he would play to 8.5 (-110).

As bad as the Rangers have been on offense, they have been even worse against left-handed pitching. Texas has brutal splits against lefties this year, with an OPS nearly .200 lower against lefties compared to righties. They are hitting below .200 against southpaws as a team and have the worst OPS in the league.

Three of the Rangers’ first four hitters are left-handed. Jung has been the lone bright spot in this lineup and a right-handed bat, but he has really struggled against lefties, hitting just .214 with a .706 OPS compared to .374 with a .996 OPS against righties.

Weathers has been a great addition to the Yankees rotation this season. He has a fastball that consistently sits in the upper 90s, and his sweeper has been lethal this season. His increased sweeper usage has raised his strikeout rate by 6.2% from last season to a career-best 28.5%.

The one area that Texas has had success this season is in its bullpen. They have the best relief pitcher ERA in the league and are second in bullpen WHIP. I would rather target New York, jumping on Gore early and the left-handed Weathers to navigate this lineup early. Weathers has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his seven starts and has completed at least five frames in five straight outings.

Bet the Yankees to get started early on Thursday afternoon and hold the lead after five innings. If all goes well, you will cash your bet before you finish your lunch.

Pick: Yankees F5 -0.5 (-130 or better)
