With Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier slated to break their tie in a trilogy fight at UFC 264 in July, there’s been a seismic shift in the betting odds.
McGregor closed around a -300 betting favorite when the two met January, but following Poirier’s impressive second-round knockout victory the fight is currently listed closer to a pick’em at most sportsbooks.
It’s -110 both ways at DraftKings, while FanDuel has the biggest gap between the two. Poirier is +105 compared to McGregor’s -126 price.
McGregor coming in as a much smaller favorite likely goes beyond just January’s result. “Notorious” has just one win in almost four years since claiming the lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez in November of 2016. That win came against Donald Cerrone, who is a respected fighter but not one mistaken as a premier championship contender.
Meanwhile, Poirier has been on a tear. “Diamond” has seven wins in the UFC since losing to Michael Johnson in September of 2016. His lone loss is to Khabib Nurmagomedov, while stacking victories against McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker and Max Holloway, among others.
While McGregor has always been a public favorite, that shine may be wearing off in bettor’s minds. Time will tell as money pours in ahead of the July 10 fight, which will take place in what’s expected to be a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
