The 2026 Indy 500 is officially in a rain delay after the red flag came out on lap 1o6 of the scheduled 200-lap distance.
Because the Indy 500 is now past halfway, it will be an official race should IndyCar officials be unable to dry the track before the sun sets on Sunday night.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway does not have lights, leaving a tighter window for the race the get restarted and the full 200 laps completed before the sun sets.
As a result, I’ve gone ahead and looked at the updated weather forecast for Sunday’s Indy 500, including the chances that the race goes back green today.
Updated Indy 500 Weather Forecast
*Weather forecast updated Sunday at 2:24 p.m. ET

The National Weather Service’s hourly breakdown shows a 33% chance of rain at 3 p.m. ET, a 43% chance of rain at 4 p.m. ET, a 54% chance at 5 p.m. ET and a 38% chance at 6 p.m. ET.
There’s then another dip to 22% at 7 p.m. ET before an even more drastic drop to 6% at 8 p.m. ET.
You never truly know with weather forecasts, but this does suggest that the rain will not linger very long at the track.
It’s now just a question of whether or not it clears out in time to get the surface dry and cars green again before it’s too dark to race.
