Hedging off a 22-1 on Illinois to win the chip

The focus when handicapping Illinois games usually begins with their offense, but it’s their defense that tips the scales for me. In back-to-back tournament games, they suffocated Houston and Iowa. The Hawkeyes only made seven two-point shots in total.  This comes down to limiting Tarris Reed Jr. because he’s been the stabilizing factor for the Huskies in the halfcourt. He’s hit 20+ in three of their four tournament games, and he’s generated foul trouble for just about everyone they’ve played. Both Ivisics grade out as A+ defenders, per Evan Miya and in their first meeting Reed was saddled with foul trouble and finished 0-fer from the field with just five rebounds. The biggest change from that late November meeting has been the emergence of Wagler. Illinois, in my estimation, has too many paths to victory. Whereas UConn has made double-digit threes once since February 18th. That means it’s a big game for Reed Jr or bust.

Completely torn on this one. Have Illinois futures & there is no doubt they have the superior roster in this one. But it’s Dan Hurley - a massive coaching edge for Connecticut coming off crazy momentum after that 19pt comeback. The Husky guard play was relatively concerning but I can give them the benefit of the doubt vs an elite defensive Duke bunch. This one as difficult to predict as the other semifinal in one of the best Final-4s in a very long time. I have Michigan > UConn in my bracket, so we ride. But so so tough
