Baylor Basketball

Baylor sits at 6-1, and it’s only a matter of time before it breaks into the rankings. The Bears' only loss was to an excellent St. John’s team on a neutral court. While the road environment may provide a few issues, Memphis is in the midst of a total rebuild year.

This Baylor team is deep and not led by just one player. The Bears' leading scorer is Cameron Carr, who's averaging a tick above 23 points a game, but six other double-digit scorers aid him.

They average 90 points per game, and they've done so through a strong paint presence that has allowed them to be the ninth-best team in offensive rebounding (41.5% of their missed shots have resulted in offensive rebounds).

They're seventh in offensive adjusted efficiency, and their strength schedule has been decent — including wins versus Washington, Creighton and San Diego State, which all rank in the top 60 via KenPom.

Their weaknesses have definitely been on the defensive side of the ball, as they allow teams to shoot 54% from the field.

Luckily for them, Memphis hasn’t been a great shooting team to take advantage of that. The Tigers rank 215th in offensive effective field goal percentage and aren't helped by ranking 269th in turnovers. 19.3% of their offensive possessions are turnovers, and 8.4% of their offensive possessions result in unforced turnovers

Those metrics indicate advantages for Baylor.

Memphis Basketball

Memphis comes into this game at 3-4 and what will most likely be Penny Hardaway‘s worst season. The transfer portal really did him no favors. They do have Dug McDaniel leading the way at 14.3 points and 6.3 assists per game, but the inconsistent efficiency has really hurt this team.

They've been unable to shoot well consistently, and they lack depth.

Weirdly, the Tigers' strength has been their defense, but they’re facing a Baylor team that wants to exploit their roster weaknesses.

They have had a tough strength of schedule, but it won't get any easier for them, as they face Baylor, Louisville and Vanderbilt in three straight games, all teams ranked in the top 30, via KenPom.

Baylor vs. Memphis Betting Analysis

I'll look to lay the moneyline and not have to worry about any late layups that could crush the spread.

The Bears have just been better, and they're much deeper. They'll also have advantages in turnover rate and offensive rebounds. That should lead to multiple shots per possession, and the greater shot value ultimately will give them the win.

The only caution we have is that we've seen road teams struggle in Memphis, but this is a real down Tiger team.

My Pick: Baylor ML -125 (Play to -150)
