Baylor vs San Diego State College Basketball Betting Preview
There's no question I have an affinity for the Mountain West, and I typically like siding with their programs in good spots.
But this season's San Diego State team is a hard read. The Aztecs' talent level hasn't been particularly impressive, and I'm saying that on the heels of a blowout win.
The Aztecs have struggled with turnovers, something very off-brand for Brian Dutcher. They're posting a turnover rate above 21% on their offensive possessions, and roughly half of those giveaways are unforced. That’s not a great recipe for success.
The Aztecs do have length — they rank 18th nationally in height — but that hasn't translated into extra possessions.
In the same breath, Baylor has also been hard to read. The Bears' success fluctuates night to night, but they've put up strong offensive rebounding numbers early in the season.
The extra possessions will carry the Bears to a win in this game. I think they can also force the Aztecs into precarious spots and create enough havoc defensively.
I'd rather lay the small number at -110 or -115 than approach -140 on the moneyline.
We're seeing the line hang around Baylor -1.5 or -2, and that's where I'll place my confidence.
I love that Baylor takes care of the basketball, and the Bears rank 18th nationally in offensive rebounding. Meanwhile, the Aztecs sit 288th in opponent rebounding — an anomaly considering they'll outsize Baylor.
I would bet the Bears up to -3.
My Pick: Baylor -1.5 (Play to -3)
