Charleston vs USF College Basketball Betting Preview
This game triggered one of our Action PRO betting systems, powered by Evan Abrams.
In college basketball, teams that have struggled against the spread and are coming off a decisive loss often become undervalued by the market, particularly when facing large double-digit spreads.
After repeated poor performances, oddsmakers tend to overadjust, creating opportunities for motivated teams to outperform expectations even if they don't win outright.
The combination of public bias against losing teams and the natural tendency for effort and variance to stabilize makes these spots profitable over time.
By backing teams that appear to be playing poorly but are priced at their lowest, this system identifies when perception has drifted too far from performance reality, leading to consistent value against inflated lines.
For what it's worth, not only has this system been profitable in the long term, but teams that fit this system this season are already 5-2 ATS.
Charleston vs. USF Betting Analysis
Charleston has struggled this season, with a 3-5 ATS record after Sunday's 23-point blowout home loss to Belmont. It's also worth mentioning that the Cougars are 0-4 ATS as an underdog.
But I think the Cougars are a tad undervalued in general, as they've been running brutally cold from 3 on both ends of the court (29% 3-point shooting, 309th nationally; 38.4% 3-point shooting allowed, 336th nationally). I'm hopeful that some regression hits on Wednesday — as the system mentions, we're buying them at the bottom of the market.
The Cougars have been missing guard Mister Dean, which hasn't helped. Without him, I'm still worried about Charleston's offense. The Cougars play heavily through the post, and I'm hopeful those buckets will be available against USF's average post defense (.84 PPP allowed, 53rd percentile).
That said, I think the Cougars match up well on the other end of the court.
Bryan Hodgson's Bulls run an up-tempo, rim-and-3, catch-and-shoot offense. But Chris Mack's Cougars are elite in transition denial (8.2 transition possessions allowed per game, 11th-fewest nationally) and solid in catch-and-shoot, rim-and-3 denial.
I only project the Cougars as 13.5-point underdogs. Between the slight edge and our Bet Labs system, I'll take a shot with the Cougars on the road.
My Pick: Charleston +15
