Florida Basketball

Florida won a lot of money for me last season, as it was in every one of my brackets to win it all.

However, after an opening-night loss to Arizona to start 2025-26, I really wasn't sure what team we were going to get this season.

What I do know is that the Gators are fast, have excellent size and are well coached.

Their strengths are similar to last season's group, but their ability to out-rebound most opponents is a huge key (13.7 boards a game).

They're also great on the interior offensively, hitting 51% of their field goal to start the season.

Their weakness has been perimeter shooting, capped off by just 19% in their last game. They're shooting just 21% for the season from beyond the arc.

Miami (FL) Basketball

Miami has yet to play a team located outside the state of Florida, as the Canes have collected three wins over Bethune-Cookman, Stetson and Jacksonville.

They’ve shown an ability to score (101 or more in back-to-back games), but since this has come against inferior opponents, I'm unsure how that'll translate.

What I do know is that this team will push the pace, as it ranks 16th in average possession length to start the season.

The Hurricanes have been really efficient, too (seventh in 2-point field goal percentage).

Miami is unproven against size and speed, which are both qualities Florida has.

The Canes also aren’t the best when they play in the half-court, so that could be a problem against the Gators.

Florida vs. Miami (FL) Betting Analysis

This is a Florida team that lost to Arizona and barely beat Florida State. The Gators might need some time to get things right, and this Miami team is very much improved.

Florida also has a non-conference slate that contains Duke and UConn in back-to-back games.

I think from a talent perspective, I can’t argue that Florida wins out. The Gators are faster and larger, but they haven't looked great to start the year.

I’m not sure I’d be comfortable laying this amount of points on Florida at a neutral site.

This game could come down to the last few possessions. While Florida typically will have the advantage if that’s the case, but I don’t think there’s going to be enough time for it to cover the spread.

My Pick: Miami +10.5 (Play to +8)
