Indiana Basketball

Indiana still finds itself unranked, coming into this one with a 12-4 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers' schedule is about to get tougher, though. After Michigan State, they have to face Iowa, Michigan and Purdue in three of their next four games.

Most metrics will favor the Spartans in this game, but the Hoosiers do a better job of limiting turnovers (65th nationally).

The Hoosiers also shoot a high volume of 3-pointers, coming in at 18th in 3PA/FGA. They also use tremendous ball movement to get those open shots, ranking ninth in assists per field goals made.

The Hoosiers also have four double-digit scorers, but they have the luxury of Lamar Wilkerson. He'll be the best player on the court, as the NBA prospect pours in 20.3 points per game.

Michigan State Basketball

It’s been a long while since Michigan State has been in the conversation as a real contender. But at 14-2, this Spartans team has it rolling on all cylinders.

They have just two losses, and neither hurts their resume in the slightest. They lost by two points at Nebraska and suffered a home loss to Duke.

While in the top third in efficiency on both offense and defense, their defense is their focal point. They have the third-ranked defense, according to KenPom, and they’ve done it the traditional way.

They don’t force a ton of turnovers, but they hold opponents to an effective field goal percentage of just 45.4%, which ranks 15th in the nation.

They're also first in limiting opponents' offensive rebounds.

The Spartans play a controlled pace, leaning on sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. and his ability to call the game offensively.

This Michigan State team has also been able to stay healthy, something it's struggled with over the last couple of seasons.

Fears averages 12.1 points per game, but he's aided by Jaxon Kohler, Coen Carr and Carson Cooper, all of whom average double digits.

The Spartans' biggest weakness is turnovers, as they rank 243rd in that category offensively. Couple that with their inability to create turnovers, and that could cause extra possessions to go to Indiana’s way.

Indiana vs. Michigan State Betting Analysis

As well as the Spartans' season has started, I’m still skeptical. And this Indiana team can match up well with them. The Hoosiers are the most experienced team in Division I basketball, averaging 3.09 years of experience, compared to 1.41 years for the Spartans.

The problem is the road environment. Of the four losses, the Hoosiers have suffered three of them on the road.

However, I'll lean on the Hoosiers' ability to turn the ball over less, which might create a few opportunities for them to generate more offense.

I like the Hoosiers to match up well and win this game outright, but I have to take the points here for insurance.

My Pick: Indiana +6.5 (Play to +5)
