Kansas State vs BYU College Basketball Betting Preview
Kansas State Basketball
Kansas State's season can't seem to be over quickly enough. Since beating Baylor, the game after Jerome Tang was fired, the Wildcats are 1-4 with an average margin of defeat being 16 points per game.
In its last five games, Kansas State is 256th in effective field goal percentage, 293rd in defensive effective field goal percentage, 330th in offensive rebounding rate and 305th in 2-point defense.
P.J. Haggerty scored 21 points in the loss to Kansas after missing the West Virginia game and will look to fill it up against BYU's defense.
35% of Haggerty's scoring possessions this season has been as the ball-handler out of the pick-and-roll. Out of those possessions, he's shooting 48% from the field, with almost all of them being 2-point attempts.
Where Haggerty's deadly is in transition. He's looking to use his big frame to get downhill in the open court, and he's done so throughout the season. In the loss against TCU, Haggerty shot 6-of-6 in transition.
If Kansas State wants to win this game, it'll need someone else to step up as a scorer, and that's where Nate Johnson can step in.
Johnson has been an inefficient scorer throughout the season, but he's scored in double figures in his last seven games, averaging 17.6 points per game.
BYU Basketball
BYU closed the season out with an impressive 82-76 comeback win against Texas Tech that snapped a three-game losing streak.
Since losing Richie Saunders for the season, the Cougars are 2-4 overall. During the six-game span, they're 203rd in defensive efficiency, 310th in defensive effective field goal percentage, 347th in 3-point defense and 292nd in 3-point shooting.
Still, BYU has the nation's leading scorer, AJ Dybantsa. The freshman has struggled shooting the ball in his last three games, hitting 36% from the field and 19% from 3.
To Dybantsa's defense, BYU has zero depthl and he's played 38+ minutes in six out of the last seven games.
Rob Wright III has picked up the offensive production over the last three games, averaging 23.7 points on 50% shooting.
Kansas State vs. BYU Betting Analysis
In the last two weeks of the season, Kansas State is 294th and BYU is 310th in defensive effective field goal percentage. Not only can neither team create stops, but now two of the top four scorers in the country are facing off against one another.
With the emergence of Wright's effectiveness, Dybantsa will be able to get easier looks against a bad defense that has nothing to play for.
I made the mistake of picking the under in Kansas State's last game. I'm not making that same mistake twice.
My Pick: Over 166.5
