Texas A&M vs Pitt College Basketball Betting Preview

Texas A&M Basketball

The Aggies have started the season with an impressive 6-2 record, but outside of wins over Montana and Florida State, not a single victory has come against a team ranked in the top 300 by KenPom.

Their numbers are going to be a bit skewed, but they rank in the top 70 in most offensive shooting metrics. They have explosive 3-point shooting, ranking 15th in attempts per game, while also being first in total field goals attempted per game. Their shot volume is tough to keep pace with.

This Aggies' offense also ranks 18th in average possession length, averaging a tick under 15 seconds per offensive possession.

They don’t turn the ball over and complement that statistic with the eighth-best turnover percentage on defense. That’s trouble for a Pitt team that doesn't take care of the basketball.

The biggest knock on this Aggies team is their early-season strength of schedule. They rank 318th in that area to begin the season, but we still expect them to have enough experience going forward.

They're the 17th-most experienced team to begin the season, and early-season blowouts have allowed them to use their bench for real-time learning.

Pitt hasn't necessarily had the flashy numbers to start the season, but its strength of schedule ranks 208th. That’s 110 spots higher than its counterpart.

The Panthers don't win the shot volume battle and they play at a pace that ranks 336th in the nation in average possession length. Their adjusted tempo ranks 345th in the nation.

This is a team that has primarily focused on the top six in its rotation and ranks outside the top 300 in bench minutes.

Overall, depth will be a big issue for Pittsburgh in this game.

Texas A&M vs. Pitt Betting Analysis

The spread is a bit troublesome, as I think it should be higher than it is. I understand road games in college basketball are always a bit of a trap, but I think this is a mismatch.

So, I'm not sure I can back the Aggies because I don’t want to fall into that trap.

I will, however, look at the total. It currently sits at 149.5, and I think that the overall pace of this game will be dictated by A&M.

If that’s the case, A&M will force Pittsburgh to try to maintain that pace, which could lead to turnovers, easy baskets and open perimeter shots in transition.

I’ll take over in this game up to 152.

My Pick: Over 149.5 (Play to 152)
