Texas Basketball

Texas has had a strong but inconsistent first season under head coach Sean Miller. The Longhorns are 17-11 overall and 8-7 in the SEC, and enter this contest looking to avoid a third straight loss.

Miller has gotten this group to play some excellent basketball on the offensive end, where this group ranks sixth nationally in efficiency.

Texas has a balance of electric scorers who can handle the ball and create for themselves, which is why the Longhorns end up dead last in the SEC in assist rate.

Dailyn Swain has fully broken out and become a high-level shot creator and scorer. Tramon Mark brings a lot of scoring ability to the table as well, especially in late shot-clock situations. Point guard Jordan Pope is a lights-out shooter and super quick off the bounce.

Big man Matas Vokietaitis is a dominant force on the interior, drawing fouls at the second-highest rate nationally. As a team, this group is second in the country in free-throw rate.

Defensively, this group definitely struggles with lapses and general inconsistency.

One of Texas’ main issues is how often it fouls opposing teams. The Longhorns are bottom-60 in the country in foul rate, and Miller has publicly expressed frustration with his guys' inability to play defense cleanly.

With athletic perimeter defenders like Swain, Mark and Chendall Weaver, the Longhorns have the personnel to be disruptive, but they still check in at just 127th in defensive efficiency as a team.

Texas A&M Basketball

Texas A&M has been one of the most surprising high-major teams in the country, going 19-9 overall with a 9-6 SEC record.

After an electric start to conference play, A&M dropped four games in a row but has bounced back this past week, winning its last two games.

First-year head coach Bucky McMillian implemented his unique coaching style seamlessly with this roster and has his boys playing some really fun basketball.

Offensively, this is the 15th-fastest offense in the country, shooting 47% of their field goals from deep, the 35th-highest rate in the country. The Aggies also lead the SEC with 19 assists per game.

McMillan will also go 11 or more players deep every game, with the Aggies' 38.6 bench points per game leading the league.

It can be anyone on any given night for the Aggies, whether it’s snipers like Rylan Griffen, Pop Isaacs or Ruben Domínguez getting it going, or more downhill guards like Marcus Hill and Jacari Lane.

It’s different every night — like last game against Arkansas, it was Zach Clemence exploding for a career high 29.

The heartbeat of the team is veteran big man Rashaun Agee. He leads the team in both points and rebounds per game, and his versatility on both ends enables a lot of what they can do.

Defensively, this group will press teams full court and looks to disrupt them, as A&M ranks second in the SEC in turnover rate.

Its biggest weakness is their lack of size on the interior, but luckily, Agee has been really impressive as a small-ball five. The problem is, certain matchups are just incredibly difficult for him standing at 6-foot-7.

Texas vs Texas A&M Pick, Betting Analysis

When these teams first met six weeks ago in Austin, A&M gritted out a 74-70 win. The score was tied at 29 at halftime.

Voketaitis went for 14 points and nine rebounds but wasn’t able to fully capitalize on his size mismatch down low. Texas was +7 on the boards and turned the ball over only eight times.

I’m looking at the Longhorns in a revenge spot here.

The way they took care of the ball against the Aggies' pressure defense is a major swing here. If Texas does that once again and continues to win on the glass with its size and might, A&M would need outlier shooting and a gem defensively from Agee to win it.

I'll take the points.

My Pick: Texas +3
