Central Michigan vs Eastern Michigan College Football Preview
Central Michigan Chippewas Betting Preview: Must-Win Game
Central Michigan has suffered gut-wrenching losses each of its last three times out, and at 3-5, it's in serious danger of missing a bowl game in Matt Drinkall’s second season.
The offense has struggled to put drives together consistently, and while the defense has played well in stretches, it hasn't been able to do so for a full 60 minutes.
Quarterback Angel Flores has been lost for the season to injury, and now the Chippewas are in must-win territory this week against rival Eastern Michigan.
The offense, which deploys a power run-heavy scheme, is averaging 170 rushing yards per game and 4.5 yards per carry. Flores registered nearly half of the carries before going down with injury, and with him out of the fold, I expect Vaughn Blue and Jayden Clerveaux to be more involved.
The ground attack will look more traditional with less quarterback involvement, and the offensive line will have to adapt to the pivoted scheme.
CMU has struggled throwing the ball most of the Drinkall tenure, but the Chips have had to throw it more out of necessity while trailing in the second half.
Jadyn Glasser took over at quarterback, and he had his best passing day of the season last week against Miami (OH). Glasser completed 18-of-31 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown, and CMU will have to find success through the air to move the ball and score points.
The CMU defense has not been overly strong this season, as the defensive front has not consistently registered pressure, and stopping the pass has been a struggle.
The Chips have really struggled on third down, allowing a third-down conversion rate of 51%, and the red-zone defense hasn't prevented touchdowns. This unit will have to find ways to get off the field if it wants to quarantine the EMU offense.
Eastern Michigan Eagles Betting Preview: Susceptible to Big Plays
EMU is coming off back-to-back losses against Toledo and Ohio in the last two weeks. The Eagles were overmatched at home against Toledo, and on the road, they battled hard but were without quarterback Noah Kim due to injury.
The Eagles have thrown the ball pretty well this season and expect Kim to return for this matchup.
Kim has thrown for 1,678 yards and 11 touchdown passes this season, and he has spread the ball around nicely to a full complement of receivers.
Harold Mack, Benson Prosper and Nick Devereaux have combined for 87 catches, 884 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Tight end Joshua Long has become much more involved in the passing game, with 25 catches in four conference games.
The EMU run game hasn't been strong this season, but the Eagles are at least trying to keep it on the ground to keep opposing defenses honest.
There should be opportunities to exploit this CMU defense, which has a banged-up secondary.
The EMU defense has allowed 23 or more points each of the last three weeks while giving up 6.5 yards per play. The run defense played really well last time out against Ohio and has really been tough all season.
EMU is going to scheme up the defense to stop the CMU rushing attack, which could leave the coverage unit susceptible to big plays against the pass.

Central Michigan vs Eastern Michigan Pick, Betting Analysis
This line opened with Eastern Michigan listed as a 2.5-point favorite, and Central Michigan has taken money in the market. With 44.5 widely available as the total line, I like the over in this matchup.
Eastern Michigan will throw the ball a lot here, and big plays should come against this Central Michigan secondary. Last week, Miami (OH) threw the ball with decent success, but EMU's passing attack will be the strongest unit CMU has seen in conference play this season.
The Eagles' receivers are too talented, and Central Michigan will allow enough big plays for Eastern Michigan to have several chances to see the red zone.
Central will have to throw the ball more than usual, but I fully expect the Chips to have some success. Eastern’s secondary is weak, and the Eagles grade out as the worst tackling defense in the MAC.
The Chips will be able to move the ball here, convert on third down and have chances in the red zone.
Both of these red-zone defenses have struggled to keep opponents out of the end zone, and I expect those struggles to continue.
Three of Eastern Michigan’s conference games this season have exceeded this point total, and the one that didn’t landed on 44 points with EMU operating with its backup quarterback.
Three of CMU’s four MAC games have exceeded this point total as well, with two in the high 50s against weaker MAC defenses. I see value on the over and will be playing the high side here.
Pick: Over 44.5
