Duke vs Tulane Preview

Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview: Mensah Key to Success
Last week, I correctly favored the Blue Devils against the Illinois Fighting Illini. While a bevy of turnovers from Duke created separation on the scoreboard, the Blue Devils still looked explosive on offense thanks to quarterback Darian Mensah.
Mensah will be a big part of the Blue Devils' offensive success in this matchup for two reasons.
The first is that the offense runs through him, as he's had tremendous success through the air and has shown off his wheels when escaping the pocket.
Secondly, Mensah was the quarterback for Tulane last season and played a significant role in the Green Wave's success. Tulane's familiarity with Mensah could work both ways, but it's clear that Mensah has progressed as a passer and is primed to let it rip against his former team.
Also, he'll get the chance to do so quite often, as the Blue Devils rank eighth in seconds per play and the Green Wave are apt to move the ball quickly.

Tulane Green Wave Betting Preview: Three-Headed Monster
As for the Green Wave, they've looked excellent through their first two games of the season, with the offense firing on all cylinders behind the rushing trio of quarterback Jake Retzlaff and running backs Javin Gordon and Zuberi Mobley.
The three-headed monster in the Tulane backfield has the Green Wave ranked 15th in yards per rush.
This explosive rushing attack will put the Duke defense to the test, as the Blue Devils rank 25th in yards per rush allowed.
However, it's very likely that Retzlaff will have more success through the air in this matchup. We know he can sling it from his time at BYU, and the Blue Devils' secondary hasn't looked great thus far, ranking 117th in yards per pass allowed and 115th in opponent completion percentage.

Duke vs Tulane Pick, Betting Analysis
Duke is already 2-0 to the over this season and is primed to continue that streak as its up-tempo offense — combined with poor secondary play — is bound to lead to plenty of points.
Tulane is a great team to throw into that equation, as it's looked very efficient offensively and has already surrendered 31 points to a weaker offense than Duke's just last week.
Pick: Over 53.5
