Marshall vs Georgia Pick, Betting Analysis
I’m blissfully scrolling on Twitter (now X, but I won’t ever call it that) when I stumble upon this perfect nugget from our own Stuckey:
This is why you follow us at Action Network, folks. News and notes like this are near-impossible to find anywhere else.
As a result of this social media find, I will be backing Marshall in Week 1.
I’m scared. Stuckey’s BBOC co-host, Mike Calabrese, already bet Georgia, tracking in the Action App with the note, “60 new players for Marshall, and they want to run the football. Good luck with that.”
However, I’m hoping that head coach Kirby Smart continues to pay little attention to the spread in these meaningless non-conference games. I’m hoping that the Bulldogs come out against Marshall like they did against UMass last year, allowing the Minutemen to run for 226 yards on 40 attempts (5.7 yards per carry).
Additionally, there are numerous questions that Georgia needs to answer for itself. Is Gunnar Stockton the guy at quarterback? Can the newer-look offensive line come together? How do the Bulldogs replace their top quarterback, top four offensive linemen, and top two wide receivers from last year's squad?
This is a very young roster, as nearly half of the scholarship players are freshmen. Coach Smart and company don't need to blow out Marshall. Instead, the Bulldogs need to experiment with different lineups and schemes to determine which ones work best.
As a result, I think the Thundering Herd keep this one within 40. For what it's worth, The Action Network projects Georgia as just a 32-point favorite.
Pick: Marshall -39.5
