Notre Dame vs UNC College Football Preview
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Betting Preview: Irish Good, Not Lucky
I'm all-in on Notre Dame this year, having placed a futures bet on Marcus Freeman’s Fighting Irish to win the National Championship prior to the start of the 2026 season.
Notre Dame has outscored its opponents by a collective 136 points over the first four games of the season, boasting elite units on both sides of the ball.
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr, who ranked amongst the Heisman Trophy betting favorites heading into the 2026 season, has picked up right where he left off with phenomenal play under center for the Irish.
Carr has already thrown for 963 passing yards this season, recording 11 total touchdowns with nine passing touchdowns and two on the ground.
Despite Notre Dame having lost several key contributors from its 2025 offense, Freeman’s offense has yet to skip a beat, with tailbacks Aneyas Williams and Nolan James Jr. leading the charge.
While the Irish are loaded offensively, Freeman’s defense is actually the stronger unit, with their first four opponents scoring a combined 33 points.
For an Irish bunch with minimal weaknesses, it'll require a grand effort from the Tar Heels to keep Saturday’s matchup competitive for four quarters.
North Carolina Tar Heels Betting Preview: Belichick Boon in Year 2
After winning a whopping eight Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels are off to a decent start in 2026 thus far in just his second season in Chapel Hill.
After upsetting TCU in Week 1 and taking down FCS East Tennessee State by over 30 points, North Carolina slipped up in its third game of the season with a tough ACC road loss to Clemson two weeks ago.
The Heels head into Saturday afternoon’s conference clash with nearly two full weeks of rest, and will surely be motivated to add a season-defining upset to its resume.
North Carolina senior quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. was a solid transfer portal acquisition for Belichick this past offseason despite playing in a QB1 capacity in just one of his three years at Maryland before getting injured at Wisconsin in 2025.
Edwards has thrown for 611 yards with three touchdowns over the Tar Heels’ first three contests. He'll surely have his hands full on Saturday matched up with arguably the best defense in all of college football.
Running back Benjamin Hall has been instrumental for this Tar Heels offense, rushing for 215 yards on just 33 attempts in 2026.
However, Belichick’s bunch has a gaping hole in its receiving corps, with 6-foot-6 junior tight end Jelani Thurman leading the team with 11 catches for 183 yards thus far.
The Tar Heels' strength is their defense, surrendering less than 14 points per game.

Notre Dame vs UNC Pick, Betting Analysis
While the Tar Heels head into Week 5 fresh off two weeks of rest, there's concern about Edwards' ability to move this Carolina offense down the field against a defense of Notre Dame’s caliber.
North Carolina’s offense lacks true playmakers, which will be extremely problematic against the third-ranked Irish, which boast tremendous versatility all over the field.
Feel confident backing Notre Dame to cover the 21-point spread on Saturday in a game that could get out of hand quickly, given the significant edge it has on both sides of the ball.
Pick: Notre Dame -21
