It won't be long now.

PENN Entertainment recently announced the anticipated opening of their new land-based Hollywood Casino Joliet on Monday, August 11, pending regulatory approvals. This new entertainment hub is designed to open nearly six months ahead of schedule.

“The countdown to the opening of our newest casino begins today,” said Jay Snowden, Chief Executive Officer and President for PENN. “The move from our existing riverboat significantly improves our offerings in the highly attractive Chicagoland market, and both our existing customers and new guests will be able to enjoy premier gaming, dining, and entertainment at this exceptionally accessible new location.”

What Games Will Hollywood Casino Joliet Offer?

Strategically positioned near the Interstate 80 and Interstate 55 interchange, the new casino is a key attraction at the Rock Run Collection, a large commercial and residential development.

With an estimated 230,000 vehicles passing daily, this location promises to draw significant traffic and attention. The facility is set to feature many gaming options, including:

  • Approximately 1,000 slot machines
  • 43 live table games
  • Dedicated baccarat room

The casino will also boast an ESPN BET sportsbook.

Besides gambling, the venue will have space for events, meeting rooms, and various dining options. Famous chef Giada De Laurentiis will open a restaurant that mixes Italian and Californian food.

Additionally, a food hall will be created in partnership with McClain Camarota Hospitality, featuring local favorites like Lucky Goat, Antique Taco, Pretty Cool Ice Cream, and Five50 Pizza.

“We’re thrilled to partner with these elite restauranteurs to bring amazing dining options to the new Hollywood Casino Joliet,” said Todd George, Executive Vice President of Operations for PENN.  “These concepts will create a vibrant atmosphere throughout the property and provide our patrons with an array of food and beverage offerings that are unmatched in the market.”

The Hollywood Casino Joliet is expected to hire around 600 employees, increasing PENN's workforce in Joliet by 200 people. When it is ready to open, the company plans to smoothly move operations from the current riverboat casino to this new land-based building.

Illinois Casinos Coming Off a Strong Month

Last month, Illinois' 17 casinos made around $163 million in adjusted gross receipts, which is about a 19% increase compared to roughly $137 million from the previous year.

According to the Illinois Gaming Board, $122 million of this total came from electronic gaming devices, up from $104 million, a 17% increase. Table games brought in about $41 million, rising from $33 million last year—an increase of roughly 23%.

Five casinos reported earnings over $10 million: Bally’s Chicago made about $11 million, Grand Victoria Casino $13 million, Hard Rock Casino Rockford nearly $12 million, Rivers Casino $44 million, and Wind Creek $17 million. Wind Creek is one of Illinois' newer casinos, while construction continues on a Bally's Casino that is being built in Downtown Chicago.

Countdown to the Grand Opening Is On

As the opening date approaches, further details about the grand opening will be shared. PENN is working closely with the Illinois Gaming Board to ensure a smooth transition of operations from the existing riverboat casino to the new land-based facility by the Des Plaines River.

The new Hollywood Casino Joliet is expected to provide a great atmosphere with its variety of gaming, dining, and entertainment options. All eyes are now set on the countdown to August 11, when this state-of-the-art casino opens its doors to the public.
