After a promising Week 1 performance in which they put up 31 points on the Bills, the Texans offense completely sputtered in Week 2 against the Bengals. Houston scored just six 6 in a blowout loss.
C.J. Stroud noticeably regressed, and the absences of Nico Collins and Jayden Higgins is devastating to the passing game.
Collins is a certified Colts killer who opens up the entire field — without him, Houston has hardly any explosive playmaking ability downfield.
The Texans are a notoriously slow-starting team (started 0-3 last year), and they proved last week that their offense simply cannot function efficiently without Collins drawing double coverage.
Dalton Schultz had a Herculean effort with 140 receiving yards against Cincinnati, but the rushing attack was limited to just 60 yards.
Colts Preview
The Colts are returning home after an overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
It's not a great spot on short rest, but they have a huge coaching advantage in this matchup as head coach Shane Steichen is an elite offensive mind who scripts opening drives brilliantly.
Yes, the Colts have given up a historic amount of yardage through two weeks, but you have to look at the context: they played Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. The current iteration of Houston's offense without Nico Collins is nowhere near that caliber.
Steichen should be able to run circles around the Houston coaching staff in terms of in-game adjustments and aggressive decision-making.
Texans vs Colts Moneyline Prediction
I am taking the Colts on the moneyline as a home underdog given the coaching and personnel mismatch.
The Texans offense is broken without Nico Collins, which will allow the Colts to play heavy man coverage on the outside, stack the box, and shut down the run game.
Shane Steichen's elite play-scripting will likely put the Texans in an early hole they simply do not have the passing firepower to climb out of.
