The Panthers have looked surprisingly explosive on offense through two weeks — but we need to pump the brakes.
Carolina has faced the Bears and Falcons so far this season, neither of which feature formidable defensive units.
The Panthers' offensive numbers have also been artificially inflated by incredible starting field position, averaging starts at their own 43.5-yard line thanks to muffed punts and an absurd string of opposing quarterback turnovers.
Bryce Young and the rest of the Panthers offense is going to face a slightly tougher test on the road in a hostile Cleveland environment, but they still shouldn't have too much trouble winning this game.
Cleveland Browns Betting Preview: Obvious Letdown Spot
I am betting against Cleveland more than I am actively backing Carolina in this spot.
The Browns are a dysfunctional organization from the top down — bad teams simply do not know how to handle success.
After getting fired up over a Mike Tomlin quote and securing a win last week, this is the exact type of unbuttoned, poorly led team that will immediately come out flat the following Sunday.
Deshaun Watson remains entirely inept, posting the worst EPA per play in the league last year and refusing to throw the ball downfield. Don't let the box score fool you — Watson was merely OK against the Bucs last week. Denzel Boston did most of the work after the catch on their 55-yard touchdown connection.
The Browns beat a highly overrated opponent in the Buccaneers last week. This is an obvious letdown spot.
Panthers vs Browns Prediction, Betting Analysis
This is purely a fade of the Browns' organizational incompetence.
I would be shocked if Cleveland manages to string together disciplined, back-to-back strong performances.
Deshaun Watson cannot complete a forward pass downfield, and the Browns are not built to win as a favorite.
I will never feel stupid betting against a franchise as dysfunctional as Cleveland is right now. I'll take the Panthers to cover the short spread on the road.
