Jaguars vs Texans Preview

For the second straight week, the Jaguars play in London, this time welcoming in the rivals Texans, who are fresh off their first win.

Thanks to a miracle last-second kick return from Ameer Abdullah, the Jaguars were able to complete a comeback against the Eagles on the back of Cam Little's buzzer-beating 57-yard field goal.

The Texans will flash a new weapon on offense following the trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., who will join his former college teammate C.J. Stroud and hopefully alleviate pressure off superstar Nico Collins.

Here's how I'm betting the Sunday game in London.

Nico Collins 70+ Receiving Yards

The talk of the town is Marvin Harrison Jr.'s debut with the Texans. While he’s likely to be one of the most bet players in the prop market, our best option is to use his presence to our advantage and back Nico Collins.

The Jaguars secondary has struggled to contain wide receivers this season. Just last week, Darius Cooper erupted for a 62-yard touchdown and Dontayvion Wicks racked up 63 yards.

We’ve seen Bo Nix connect with Jaylen Waddle for 138 yards when Nix can barely throw the ball 10+ yards downfield. Even Mack Hollins finished with 87 yards with AJ Brown sidelined.

Overall, Jacksonville allows 1.92 yards per route run (YPRR) to outside wide receivers, the fourth-most in the NFL. While the Jaguars have been effective against the run, their secondary has been extremely vulnerable.

Harrison’s addition should draw some attention away from Collins and open the door for another monster performance. Collins has topped 100 receiving yards in each of his last five games against Jacksonville.

Houston doesn’t have a particularly effective rushing attack, so I’d expect a more pass-heavy approach. Collins has surpassed 70 receiving yards in two of three games this season, with his lone under coming in a 20-point blowout win over Tennessee.

Expect Collins to command the lion’s share of the targets once again and deliver in London.

Bhayshul Tuten Over 10.5 Receiving Yards

We need to start putting some respect on Bhayshul Tuten’s name.

The second-year pro is one of the most underrated running backs in football, averaging 4.3 yards per carry and topping 70 rushing yards in each of his last three games.

He’s also been a threat in the passing game, recording at least 17 receiving yards in four of five games this season (80%).

Tuten has established himself as Jacksonville’s clear RB1, and his explosiveness has led Liam Coen to get the 23-year-old involved as much as possible.

This is a tough matchup against a vaunted Texans defense, even if Houston struggled early in the season. Head coach DeMeco Ryans took over playcalling duties in Week 5, and the Texans responded with a dominant 26-3 win over the lowly Titans.

Houston primarily operates out of zone coverage, limiting explosive plays and forcing offenses to work underneath. That could benefit Tuten in the passing game, as the Texans look to keep everything in front of them.

Running backs are averaging 4.8 receptions for 17 yards per game against Houston’s defense, creating an opportunity for Tuten to get involved as a pass-catcher.

Tuten has finally taken control of Jacksonville’s backfield, playing a season-high 68% of the snaps last Sunday. With his role continuing to grow, that workload should remain relatively consistent moving forward.

Nate Boerkircher 5+ Receiving Yards

One of the more interesting trends I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks has been the emergence of Nate Boerkircher as a legitimate weapon behind Brenton Strange.

The Jaguars have clearly emphasized a ground-and-pound approach with Tuten, leading to plenty of 13 personnel. Last week, Boerkircher played 35 snaps, accounting for 49% of the offense’s snaps and marking his second-highest snap share of the season.

The rookie tight end is starting to make an impact and earn the trust of the Jaguars’ staff. He’s received two targets in each of the last two games, recording at least 15 receiving yards in both.

While tight ends haven’t exactly dominated against the Texans, Jacksonville’s play-action game could be an effective weapon for picking up short yardage.

Who better to take advantage of that than Boerkircher? He could be in position to benefit from the Texans keying in on the run.

The Jaguars drafted Boerkircher in the second round for a reason, but it takes time for rookies to get comfortable in an offense. I think we’re finally starting to see his role grow, making him an intriguing option as his involvement continues to increase.
