New York Jets Betting Preview: Buy-Low Opportunity

The Jets were very unlucky in their loss to the Lions last week — New York dominated for long stretches before falling in the fourth quarter because Aaron Glenn simply mishandled the clock (again).

Despite some cluster injuries on the offensive line with Dylan Parham out, and Adonai Mitchell banged up, New York remains a feisty team expecting Minkah Fitzpatrick back in the defensive backfield.

The key to this offense is Geno Smith. When kept clean in the pocket, Smith has been remarkably effective this season. And fortunately for him, he faces a Chicago defensive front that struggles to generate any organic pressure.

If Smith has time to cycle through his progressions without immediate duress, New York should be able to move the chains with consistency.

Chicago Bears Betting Preview: Sell High on Ben Johnson

The Bears are laying 3.5 points on a short week, and quite frankly, the market is giving their defense far too much credit.

Chicago’s defensive metrics look respectable over the last two weeks, but context is everything: the Bears faced a pair of rather dysfunctional offenses (Vikings and Bears).

Remember Week 1 when Carolina put up 37 points on the Bears?

Offensively, it looks like Tyson Bagent will start over Case Keenum with Bagent clearing concussion protocol. While I trust head coach Ben Johnson to simplify the offense and lean on the ground game, Bagent posted 11 turnover-worthy plays to just two big-time throws in his 2023 action.

I simply do not trust the Bears to win by margin.

Jets vs Bears Prediction, Betting Analysis

I am taking the Jets to cover.

I backed Chicago plus the points last week against a broken Eagles squad, but I am flipping here because there is not a full touchdown difference between Philadelphia and New York across two key betting numbers (3 and 4).

The Jets defense should be able to keep this game well within striking distance, and Geno Smith will likely get the clean pocket he needs against a weak Bears pass rush.

Pick: Jets +3.5 (-120)
