Stars vs. Ducks Preview
Dallas Stars
The calendar year of 2026 hasn’t been kind to the Stars. Six games played, five of them being on the road, with two more – including tonight – being away from the Lone Star State.
But Dallas has always been an elite team on the road, carrying a 15-4-6 record. It just defeated the Kings last night, 3-1, and now it’ll get to roll out one of the best backup netminders in the league, Casey Desmith.
Desmith has played quite a bit for a backup, which is a great thing for the playoffs, playing to a .911 SV% this season, but in the past 10 games, he has posted a 5.2 GSAx.
The Stars' 5-on-5 play has also fit the bill since January 1, playing to a fifth-best expected goals, and a 10th-best 2.49 xGA/60.
Jason Robertson, who for whatever reason was left off Team USA, is playing out of his mind, with seven points in his last five games. While Mikko Rantanen continues to play like one of the best in the league.
But you know who else has been hot? The one and only Sam Steel. In the past three games, he’s registered five points.
Anaheim Ducks
It’s truly sad to see how much the Ducks have fallen in the past 10 games.
Not only have they lost five in a row, but they have gone 1-8-2 and lost their positioning in the playoffs. Maybe they shouldn’t have relocated the Wild Wing statue. Just a thought.
Ducks are 0-7-1 since disappearing the Wild Wing statue 😭 https://t.co/czhCbEAIuA

It was good to see Leo Carlsson get back on the board, though. Carlsson, after lighting the league on fire, went goalless for 12 straight games before scoring against the Sabres on Saturday.
Hopefully, for him and the team, it’s a sign of things to come. When Carlsson is playing well, the Ducks are playing well.
I’ve been incredibly discouraged with Lukas Dostal, though, who started the season as one of the league’s brightest goaltenders. However, now he has been playing to an abysmal .805 SV% in his last 10 games.
Along with that, his GSAx is the second worst in that span, with a -11.1 GSAx, with only Elvis Merzlikins being worse.

Stars vs. Ducks Prediction
I think Anaheim will bounce back eventually. However, it doesn’t seem feasible tonight.
The Stars have spent most of the calendar year on the road and for the most part, are an elite road team. Yet, you have to imagine that the miles are stacking up and it’s getting to the boys.
After beating the Kings in L.A. last night, they luckily have the luxury of sleeping in the same bed as they did the night before.
And the Ducks are already a vulnerable squad. Being back home can definitely rejuvenate the squad, but I don’t foresee much happening tonight.
Dallas is an elite road team against a team that is desperately trying to recapture its identity and a goalie who has turned into Swiss cheese.
Take this in regulation.
Pick: Stars 3-Way Moneyline (+125)
