Carolina Hurricanes Preview

The Carolina Hurricanes nearly completed a historic comeback in Game 3, overcoming a four-goal deficit to force overtime. Ultimately, a fortunate bounce helped the Vegas Golden Knights take the series lead, but the key development was what sparked Carolina’s rally: turning to backup goaltender Brandon Bussi.

After Frederik Andersen allowed four goals on 16 shots, Bussi entered in relief and performed exceptionally well. He stopped 18 of 19 shots for a .947 save percentage.

The lone goal he allowed came off an unfavorable set of bounces. Given Andersen’s performance to start the series and Bussi’s showing in Game 3, it would be shocking if Bussi didn't start in Game 4.

Vegas Golden Knights Preview

Meanwhile, Vegas is expected to start Carter Hart again Tuesday. He has struggled against Carolina’s offense, allowing four goals in each of the first three games.

Hart has posted a .864 save percentage over that stretch.

The Golden Knights remain a strong team and are competitive across all three zones. However, the underlying metrics favor Carolina despite the current series score.

In the playoffs, the Hurricanes rank ahead of Vegas in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60), expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60) and expected goal share.

Hurricanes vs. Golden Knights Prediction

The change in goaltending could exactly be the spark that Carolina needs to even this series. If Bussi plays as he did in relief in Game 3, then the Hurricanes may have found their answer for Vegas' strong offensive play thus far.

Meanwhile, it is clear that Hart is struggling with what he is facing on the other end of the ice. Analytically, Carolina has been the stronger team in an otherwise closely contested series, one that is far from over.

Pick: Hurricanes Moneyline (-115 | Play to -120)
