Wild vs. Utah Preview

This is a clean fit for the "West to East" System:

The system targets a visiting club that just played as the visitor against a Pacific opponent and now plays again a day or two later in a Mountain, Central, Arizona, or Eastern rink, and the Wild check every box: they played at Vancouver on Sunday, they're back on the ice two days later in Salt Lake City, and it isn't the opener of their season.

The system argues that a group already in road rhythm, with travel habits set and legs warm, is more resilient than the market gives it credit for, and Utah's -130 price against a +110 Wild number suggests the market is treating this as a routine home win.

The matchup supports the system. The Wild are coming off two wins in which they controlled the game, outshooting Seattle 36-24 and Vancouver 34-18, and they're doing it with a goalie whose save percentage is 40 points better than the one they'll face.

Utah's recent games have turned into track meets, and a team that has given up four to Pittsburgh, five to Seattle (one an empty-netter), and four to Tampa Bay needs its offense to bail it out against a defense anchored by Hughes. If this is a close, low-event game, Wallstedt is the better goalie on the ice.

The risk is that this is Minnesota's fifth straight road game, so the system's premise that the time shift hasn't piled up yet is the soft spot here. Utah has home ice, and its offense can win a game on its own.

Although the system's whole point is that this is a spot where the road team tends to be underpriced, and at plus money the Wild are worth taking.

Best Bet: Minnesota Wild Moneyline (+110, FanDuel)
